amputee to personal trainer

Donation protected

Hi, I’m Carey. I’m 24 years old and a kiwi living in Brisbane. I arrived here in late 2014 but last year in June, I was involved in a motorcycle accident that left me in intensive care, struggling for life. At that time, I had to make a semi-conscious decision to either operate on or amputate my leg. The doctors advised that amputation was the best way to go as if they tried to save it, there would only be a 10% chance and it would be a lot more rehabilitation due to the muscle being almost gone. I chose to amputate as I believed I would have more ability in the future with a prosthetic.

A year has passed now, and after overcoming depression and accepting my new way of life, I was faced with the reality of my financial situation and questioning what I was going to do in the future with only one leg. As you may know, kiwis are not eligible for the Newstart Allowance in Australia and I have been declined for the disability pension under the reciprocal agreement due to the fact that I will be able to work within the next 2 years.

I absolutely will not allow all of this to get me down. During my recovery, I have started to help a lot of people out of depression and been a motivational speaker to others and really want to continue being a role model for others who have to go through adversity and the physical challenges that I am also facing.

My dream is to train to become a personal trainer, and continue to help people both physically and emotionally. After a lot of persistence, I’ve been accepted at Goodlife Gym to go through their 2 month training program. This will guarantee me employment at the end of the program once I gain my certificates. I was so excited, that I accepted the placement, thinking that the Disability Pension would be okayed and I’d be able to at least pay the $249 per fortnight fee for the training certificates ($4,500 in in total) but this is not the case.
Up until now, I’ve had some wonderful friends who have been supporting me, and I at least have a roof over my head, but I’d love to become self sufficient once again, but need to get past this stumbling block of the next 2 months before I am employed and can pay my own way. What I’m asking is if anyone could assist me by helping to pay for this training program and a little towards living cost for the next couple of months.

Asking for help like this is the last thing I want to do, but i'm not sure where to turn, so humbly ask for any assistance
