Hi there!

My name is Anthony Jacobson and I am an independent movie director and film producer from Vienna, Austria. Some years ago, I had the chance to meet the original band of Elvis Presley, the TCB band. As we were talking, I came up with the idea of doing a documentary about them and now, here I am.

I’ve been filming with the band now for four years, joined them on tour and accompanied them to many events, travelled with them and did various interviews. So far, I have financed the whole project myself - but now I need YOUR help!

The History

When Elvis left Hollywood to restart his musical career, he needed a band. It was supposed to be put together by the best musicians available to support him live on stage and in the studio. Therefore, he called James Burton, one of the best and most influential guitarists of that time, speaking of the year 1969. James gathered the best musicians he knew to form what would later become the legendary TCB Band, after Elvis’s motto “Taking Care of Business”. The nowadays still active members, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt have performed more than 1.200 shows together with Elvis Presley, including historic concerts like “Aloha from Hawaii”, which was viewed by more than one billion people on TV around the globe in 1974.

But even before and after performing alongside with Elvis, the individual TCB members contributed their skills to other great artists such as Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Emmylou Harris or Neil Diamond, just to name a few.  Until today they are still active, and James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt are touring the world to celebrate and enjoy the music.

The Plot

Caretakers of Business pictures the incredible lives and astonishing careers of the still active members of Elvis Presley’s legendary TCB Band, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt. The documentary will not only give an insight on what led those artists to these extraordinary careers but also on their current works and touring. Fellow artists and lifelong companions give further details on the impact the TCB Band had on music history and how they have influenced the late music history and other artists.

In the context of the last tours around the world, the documentary will picture not only the history of the TCB Band itself but also focuses on the individual characters who stand behind so many hits – hits everybody knows but might just not recognise who stands behind them. The viewer will hear the stories about how the musicians exercised their work and how they keep up with the technological developments and requirements they must meet nowadays, and they will get a deep insight into what happens during soundcheck and what is going on backstage or when being on tour.

Caretakers of Business is the story of some of the most exceptional musicians who helped so many people to create, enjoy and perform pieces of music we all love.

Why are we asking for support?

In order to complete the movie, we still need to do some further filming to be able to head into post-production. We want to travel to Nashville and Memphis in August of 2019 to film with the band. We have planned to visit each band member at home where we will do more interviews and be shown artefacts of their astonishing careers. We will visit historic sites with the band such as e.g. the legendary RCA Studio B where the TCB Band used to record with Elvis. Further we will be filming additional footage such as more interviews with colleagues and family members of the musicians and film footage in context with the band, describing their origins and picturing where they get their inspiration from and what they are up to in their “normal” lives. The footage we will film in Nashville and Memphis will focus more on their individual careers behind the stage and on their actual work and how they approach it.

What the funding is for

-          Flights for film crew

-          Accommodation for the film crew in Nashville and Memphis

-          Rental fees for filming equipment and a hired van to get around

-          Fees and costs for filming permissions, entry fees for sights, etc.

-          Production expenses

-          Preparations for post-production
