New Need for Caregivers for Mark Hrehocik

In August 2019, Mark Hrehocik was diagnosed with stage 4 Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma (SNUC), a rare and aggressive form of cancer of the sinus cavity.  He underwent a bilateral craniotomy and four rounds of chemotherapy along with six weeks of DAILY radiation with another round of chemo.

This past May 2021, Mark Hrehocik underwent surgery again.  This was a major surgery -- over 13 hours long -- that was scheduled on an emergency basis after Mark had a seizure and fell, damaging a delicate graft in his forehead, exposing him to great risk, and also resulting in a fracture to his C3 vertebrae.  The operation involved taking muscle from his knee (quadricep) and creating a new graft in his forehead, with the hope that blood supply will be restored to that fragile area.  Unfortunately, the surgery to his leg either temporarily or permanently --  unknown as of yet -- made him unable to stand, so he cannot now walk unassisted.  Combined with lingering cognitive deficits resulting from this latest surgery, falling is a looming and huge risk, requiring that he have a caregiver 24/7.  His wife, Diane, took  leave from her job as a science teacher,  so that  she could care for Mark during his recovery but his inability to stand and walk safely has raised the level of care that Mark will need.

Mark and his family have been through a lot.  His first wife and mother of his three boys, passed away of ovarian cancer in 2012.  Since then he met and married Diane Reckless.  Unlike her name suggests, she is a careful and thorough caregiver to Mark and his boys as well as her own two children, but she needs more help, since, at this point, she is unable to even leave the room with him unattended. His risk of falling, refracturing his vertebrae, or damaging his graft combined with his impaired decision-making and confusion means that the family will need regular caregiving services.  They need our help.  Please support them if you can.
