Imagine if there was a simple discovery that could

RELIEVE CLIMATE CHANGE

...by using the

WORLDS SOILS
.

Imagine if this discovery helped the wolds soils to become

MORE FERTILE.

Soil C Quest 2031 are researching a simple method to empower farmers to become...

                  'CARBON-CAPTURING CLIMATE SUPER-HEROES'.

We have a very important plan,

...a simple, practical, achievable plan that involves the soil, the climate

...& you!

In fact, everybody on the planet!       .

...a plan to transfer 60 Billion Tonnes + of carbon dioxide (C02) from our over-burdened atmosphere & store it as valuble soil carbon in the worlds farming soils, by the year 2031...to help relieve dangerous climate change, and restore soil fertility.

HOW?

By researching, developing and deploying a newly discovered 'SOIL CARBON FUNGUS', capable of rapid soil carbon sequestration into agricultural soils.

A simple discovery that changes everything we thought was possible regarding the capacity of soil to rapidly store carbon long term.

Below:  The Soil Carbon Fungus on a petri dish ...note the black colour.  That's fungal 'melanin', a very valuable form of soil carbon that the fungus manufactures from the carbon out of the air....in large quantities, via a process we call...

... 'Fungal Mediated Soil Carbon Sequestration'!!

The Soil C Quest projet is based on peer reviewed research carried out at the University of Sydney by Associate Professor Peter McGee and Dr Tendo Mukasa Mugerwa, with the research now taken forward by our grassroots not-for-profit Research Institute Soil C Quest 2031, based in Forbes NSW Australia.

So...What do Farmers think?

Trangie farmer and Soil C Quest Director Mick Wettenhall weighs in...

Transfering carbon from the air and converting it into valuable soil carbon using specialised melanised endophytic fungi....what an amazing way to turn

...a MASSIVE PROBLEM (climate change)

...into a MASSIVE SOLUTION (soil fertility).

SO HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?

1.  Plants take carbon dioxide (C02) out of the air to make plant sugars via photosynthesis.

2.  The Carbon Fungus, living in harmony in plant roots, helps the plant to grow whilst manufacturing fungal melanin derived from the plant sugars.

3.  The Carbon Fungus then pipes this melanin through its fungal roots (called hyphae), into the core of soil micro-aggregates (tiny clumped soil structures <200um).

4. In essence the Carbon Fungus 'traps' plant carbon as fungal melanin inside soil microaggregates ... carbon from the air, trapped in the soil!

Fungal melanin trapped inside soil microaggregates is safe for 100's, perhaps 1000's of years.  This means long term carbon storage!

Watch this animated graphic to see how the specialised 'Soil Carbon Fungus' sequesters carbon from the air and traps it into the soil.

Below:
Guy Webb (Forbes based agronomist and Soil C Quest CEO) explains how 'fungal mediated carbon sequestration' happens in a farmers paddock.

The SOIL CARBON FUNGUS...

1. will ease dangerous climate change

2. is safe and very beneficial for farmers and their crops.

3.   helps create healthy high-carbon soils, meaning greater farming resilience to climate extremes and increased food security.

In short...
The problem of too much carbon in our atmosphere can now become the solution of too little in our soils.

So...what is the capacity of agriculture...IF empowered by an easy method for farmers to rapidly store soil carbon?

Agriculture represents the LARGEST TERRESTRIAL CARBON SINK on the planet, managed by the LARGEST CLIMATE ARMY (farmers) ON THE PLANET!

So...in simple terms, our job is to make it easy, practical  &  economical for farmers to store atmospheric carbon in their soils, and that's exactly what this soil carbon fungus can do!

Scientific modelling suggests this SOIL CARBON FUNGUS may have the conservative capacity to double soil carbon levels over a 10-year period.  If adopted across the worlds farming soils, the fungus could potentially draw down and store tens of billions of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere, thereby helping to mitigate dangerous climate change.

The carbon storage capacity of the worlds agricultural soils is more than large enough to absorb the excess carbon that is presently in our atmosphere.

In fact, the world soils have currently lost well over 50% of their original highly valuable soil carbon stores.

We plan to reverse this trend!

Humans farm an area around the size of South America and graze an area the size of Africa!   That is a massive carbon sink... and massive capacity to absorb atmospheric carbon!

CARBON IS GOOD FOR SOIL!

Below:  Same soil...different soil carbon levels.  The one at the top is black with soil carbon and holds significantly more water and nutients for healthy plant growth.  The red soil sample on the bottom is the same soil taken only a meter away from the black sample (over a fence line) and has lost most of its valuable carbon due to intensive farming practices.  The red one has plenty of storage room for more carbon!!

Below:  Soil Cores taken either side of a fence line.  The soil at the bottom has had melanised endophyic fungi applied for ~10 years, the one on the top has not. Both are the same soil type.  Note the significantly darker coloured soil profile and improved pH of the bottom sample.  That's the effect of soil carbon!!
Soil Carbon fungi doing their job!!

The SOIL CARBON FUNGUS has the real potential to be a scaleable method for gigatonne carbon sequestration, easily adoptable by farmers....the very people who manage the interface between the atmosphere and the soil.

Lets develop the the tools to do this massive job.  There has never been a more important time in history to act!

Help us further the research to develop this important solution for climate change, for the soil, for farmers...for all of us!
