Car issues and being forced off the road.

I find myself humbled to be here, but I'm afraid I have nowhere else to turn to.
I find myself without a car, after losing my current one to the ravages of age. I was warned by my mechanic that any attempt to fix my current car would be pointless, as the repair cost would exceed the value of the car itself (2003 Chevy Malibu). The repairs themselves would cost in excess of $1000 or more, and the many problems added together made it unsafe to drive. The inspection is now up, and I don't dare attempt to drive it.
The rust has eaten away the rocker panels on both sides completely.
At this point it's started to eat into the body structure itself.
You can see here the mechanic put wood pegs due to putting the wrong type of gasket on the engine. This caused two of the six fuel injectors to misfire, dragging the performance of the engine down to around 10 MPG. I was told it would cost extra to replace this.
With structure rust, missing rocker panels on both sides, an engine misfire and the front wheel hub grinding the car is just too unsafe to drive, and too expensive to fix.
Unfortunately, I have very little money of my own to work with. I'm currently working seven days a week as a child care work at GJR in Grove City to make ends meet, but even then some paychecks are hit and miss. The pay leaves much to be desired, but I love my job and I'm currently riding with any coworkers that can take me to work at this time. I'm scrounging to save up what I can, but with my coworkers good will running out and what little I can save I'm at my wits end.
I don't need, nor want anything special. I just need something to get me to work and back, and the friends I have (while sympathetic) are unable to help me. So I turn to everyone here, in hopes of help.
