'can't stop can't stop' at EdFringe

Donation protected

We are taking can’t stop can’t stop, a show made by Sam Ross about his experience of severe OCD, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2018. BUT... we need your help in tackling the unavoidable costs of making this show happen there!

The show was one of only 16 selected for the National Student Drama Festival in Leicester this March. It became a major talking point at the Festival. And now Sam (and the team) are taking the show to Edinburgh.

In taking this show to Edinburgh Fringe Festival, we aim, whilst there,  to open up this conversation about the illness and how it affects everyone. We hope in creating these connections we will allow others to feel comfortable in openly talking about similar debilitating mental health conditions and provide them with resources after to learn more and get support. Ultimately we aim to take the show beyond the normal theatre-going public and to reach out to communities and organisations who deal with OCD, helping to engage with those who may suffer with mental health issues but who would not normally be able to access such a show.

Yet, the high costs of staging it (over £3,000) means that we need your help. If you donate, your money will go towards:

 - Helping us provide after show resources and support. E.g. This will allow us to take a Basic MHFA Course ensuring we can facilitate a safe space and provide resources and details of services such as Mind, OCD UK.

- Marketing the show to reach a wider audience and promote the messages of the show. Your money can help us with reaching more people on social media and the printing costs associated with flyering at the Fringe itself.

- Outreach. We hope to market the show beyond the usual audience and reach out to communities and organisations. We also wish to make this show accessible by subsidising ticket prices for those who most need it.

Venue Hire. We will be at C Royale (C Venues) and our venue hire cost is £2,925. This is the largest cost to the show and securing this will help make this venture possible and allow us to share this important show with others there.

About the Show

The show itself is a solo theatrical performance by Sam Ross, which conveys a personal experience of how it feels to live from day to day with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. A much-misunderstood yet debilitating condition, it affects 1.2% of the UK population and manifests itself in disturbing intrusive thoughts, which compels the sufferers to perform repetitive and exhausting actions. It is greatly traumatising and makes everyday existence almost unbearable.

Sam has lived with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for many years and this show in talking about his experiences, teaches the audience about OCD, breaks down misconceptions and raises awareness for the side of OCD that is not often talked about.
