CANTER Chicago: 2017 Fundraiser
Donation protected
On February 14, 2016, a group of passionate thoroughbred advocates launched and incorporated "Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses Chicago," otherwise known as CANTER Chicago.
CANTER Chicago is one of the newest and fastest growing affiliates of CANTER USA, a national non-profit that has helped more than 22,000 OTTBs transition through its programs.
CANTER affiliates are operated across the country and provide an array of services to help retiring Thoroughbred racehorses transition into new careers.
CANTER Chicago, specifically, was formed to support horses retiring from Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, IL and Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, IL.
CANTER Chicago is a 100% volunteer organization that operates without a central barn facility or any full time staff. Our rehoming services are offered completely free to Chicagoland racing trainers and owners; this allows us to never say "no" to helping a horse in need of a new home and career.
Since we do not receive any funding from the local tracks and our services are provided at no cost to the racing community, we rely 100% on our own fundraising initiatives -- and the generosity of people like you.
In our first year of operating CANTER Chicago, we listed 23 horses -- nearly 2 horses each month. Of those horses listed, we successfully rehomed 14 horses.
We are proud to say that CANTER Chicago rehomed at least one Chicagoland retiring racehorse every month in 2016.
Below you will find the specific horses listed with CANTER Chicago in 2016 and their last status as indicated by their racing contact.
If you believe in our mission and would like to see us help even more horses in 2017, we humbly and gratefully ask for your support.
Best wishes,
Kristen Rose Miller, CANTER Chicago Executive Director & the CANTER Chicago volunteer team
