Eugene's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Eugene is a 2.5 year old male Veiled Chameleon. I have had him since he was about 4 months old. About a month ago I started to notice that he was having trouble walking and would lose him grip and slip and fall from his branches. He started to develop bumps on his body (mostly on the tail) and I became very concerned.

After 3 stressful trips to the vet, he was diagnosed with acute kidney failure/gout. The first vet trip was to check out his legs and wrists to see why his front arms kept slipping. He has swollen legs and painful joints so we took x-rays and found that there were no fractures (good news!). The second trip was to take biopsys of the lumps developing on his joints to see if they were tophi (build up of uric acid crystals from gout). After the biopsy there were more questions than answers so poor Eugene was dragged off to the vet and had his bloodwork taken. As you can imagine, x-rays, biopsys and bloodwork for exotic pets add up quickly.

One of my other reptiles had recently cost me over $1,000 in vet bills and then unfortunately didnt pull through back in December of 2015 so my emergency vet fund had been used up.

On Friday morning the vet called me and told me that Eugene's uric acid levels of his blood are about twice the level they should be and that hie will be needing some extra TLC inthe next few weeks but he does believe that we can heal him. Eugene can barely move due to the painful joints but is still eating well and showing healthy colours. It really pains me to see him like this and there isnt anything I wouldnt do to help him. The medication that he needs to go on is called Allopurinol which is actually for humans but shows great potential to help Eugene and other chameleons.

I love Eugene so much and it really upsets me to see him like this, he has always been a little trooper and I think with my exotic veterinarian's expertise and my TLC, he can make a full recovery.

This is where your support comes in, we are already passing the $800 mark in vet trips and $400 for food and medicine.

All donations would be used to pay off the vet bills that have accumulated so far, cost of the medication that he will need to be on, higher end feeder insects such as silkworms and butterworms, and any other reptile related expense that comes my way.

I would be beyond grateful for your support, whether it may be financial or verbal support. I hate seeing him like this and can't wait to see him walking on his own again and living a healthy happy chameleon life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support, I will post updates when something  new comes up.

Eugene has been moved into a smaller cage with rolled up towels to prevent him from falling or hurting himself further.
