Hi, this page is set up for Maven Borgen and her family. Maven is 6 years old and was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. During her biopsy the doctors were able to remove a good portion of this tumor but given the very sensitve location were unable to remove it completely, so she will need ongoing treatment including chemo therapy. In addition where this tumor is could impact the use of her arms and legs among other body parts, the Borgen family is facing some of the most difficult times a family can endure, the outpouring of prayers, love and support they are receiving is greatly appricated and please continue to do so. I am setting this go fund me up for them so that we can help alleviate the very heavy financial burden that is soon to come. Whatever you can donate will help, nomatter how small you feel it is its always the little things that help the most. Please keep the Borgens in you thoughts and prayers. Paul, Melanie, Maven, and her little brother Anthony. Thanks for all that take the time to read this, and thank you to those that decide to donate. There is also a facebook page called team Maven where you can get updates on her condition and treatments. Thanks again!

A Major Update from Melanie, Maven's Mom:
In the background these last few months we've been researching and weighing the pros and cons of future treatment options for Maven. After consulting with many doctors at multiple hospitals and talking to families of other children fighting DIPG and learning about their personal journeys and the treatment plans they pursued, we have come to a conclusion. First and foremost we believe we need to act now before Maven's tumor has the chance to grow. DIPG is a very aggressively growing form of brain cancer located at the hardest to treat, and most vital, area of the brain, plus it is attempting to infiltrate nerves and steal a blood supply. If we sat back and waited for the positive affects of radiation to wear off and the tumor started to actively grow again it would be twice as hard to treat it and the outcome would be very bleak. So we have decided to be proactive and move ahead with an innovative and promising treatment. This treatment combines a cancer drug that targets the most prevalent histone mutation found in DIPG with a delivery method that breaches the blood/brain barrier. Both have been proven to be safe but have only just now started to be used together. The treatment is CED (convection enhanced delivery) which will deliver the drug Panobinostat. To receive this possibly life lengthening (both in quality and quantity) treatment we will need to travel to Harley Street Clinic in London, U.K. This treatment option is not yet available in the States because the clinical trial is still awaiting approval from the FDA. I hear that is might become available by September 2017 but I've already spoken to the doctors and have been told that Maven will not qualify for it since it will have been too much time since she completed radiation. All of this to say that we will need your continued support both emotionally and financially since our American insurance will not cover this type of treatment oversees. The treatment requires and very delicate and lengthy robot guided brain surgery followed by infusions of the cancer drug every 6 weeks. The surgery is very expensive, approximately $78,000. Followed by infusions every 6 weeks that will cost around $10,000 each time. These estimates do not include travel expenses. By the grace of God and your giving hearts we have already raised over $20,000 for Maven's treatment. We have already just heard word that a relative will be donating a large sum to fund the first surgery. But we will need your continued support to raise the additional $10,000 we will need each 6 week period. You can give through this gofundme page or you can avoid the 10% fee by sending your donation through the "friends and family" option on Paypal. Our paypal account is melanieaborgen@gmail.com

In an effort to give our supports another way to spread awareness of DIPG and Maven's battle to defeat DIPG in particular, we will soon be selling car magnets with the phrase #StrongforMaven . We will try from now on to tag all of our updates with this hashtag so that anyone can find us online and follow along with our journey to stay strong for Maven. We will stay strong for Maven because she shouldn't have to, she is only a child and children shouldn't have fight cancer on their own. We will bolster her strength and courage with ours. We will also hold fast to His Word especially Joshua 1:9 that says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
