Cancer Benefit for Joe Colburn

This page is for those that are unable to make it to the benefit but are still wanting to donate. We really do hope to see as many people there as possible though.
Friends and family of Arisa and Joe Colburn. As many of you know, Joe was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in March of 2018. He underwent an intense regimen of chemotherapy. During chemotherapy he was unable to work. The financial situation was tough, but they made it through it together. After about six months Joe was then cleared and able to return to work full-time. Unfortunately, it was a little less than two months he was able to work because in late February, he began experiencing some excruciating flank pain and ended up going to the emergency room with his wife. He was then readmitted to the hospital for pain control. This is when they learned that his cancer had returned with a vengeance. They are now currently waiting for UW-Madison Hospital to find a donor so Joe can have a stem cell transplant. This will mean he will have to be off of work for at least eight months to a full year. During the time of his transplant and recovery his wife will also have to take time off of work in order to be his main caregiver, to help maintain his health and take him back and forth to his appointments. This event is to help aide this couple in a time of need and to assist with the financial difficulties they are currently facing and will continue to face throughout the next year. Donations and funds will all be donated straight to the couple and will help cover medical bills, travel expenses, home bills, etc.

Lymphoma: A type of cancer that arises for a type of white blood cell called a ‘lymphocyte’. It is categorized into two major sections: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Mantle cell lymphoma is one of about 70 different subtypes of NHL.
Mantle Cell Lymphoma: Results from a malignant transformation of a B lymphocyte in a lymph node follicle (the mantle zone). The malignant lymphocyte grows in an uncontrolled way which results in the accumulation of lymphoma cells and leads to the enlargement of lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are found throughout your body and these cells can spread into the blood, tissues, bone marrow, liver and gastrointestinal tract.
Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant: A stem cell transplant is one treatment option for patients with serious blood cancers and immune system or genetic disorders. Transplant is often recommended because the disease does not respond to standard chemotherapy. In allogenic transplant, cells are collected from a donor.
