Canadian Gliding Team to Australia
The Canadian Team is an amateur sports team composed of 4 pilots and 5 crew members and a Team Captain that will represent Canada at the World Championships in Benalla, Australia in January 2017.
The estimated cost to send the team to Australia is around $100,000 and will be funded primarily by the team members with support from the Soaring Assoc of Canada as well as friends and family.
The goal of this campaign is to raise $25,000 to cover the cost of shipping the gliders to Australia and back by sea container.
The gliders were shipped in late October 2016 and the container ship arrived at the port of Melbourne on 24 November 2016. Shipping the gliders from Canada is actually more cost effective for the team than paying the rental rates being offered in Australia.
Although the decision to ship the gliders has been made and the gliders are now in Australia we are still short of our fund-raising goal and donations can still be made to cover the cost of shipping the gliders.
Flying our own aircraft during the two week race will also be a huge advantage for the team. Racing with famliar equipment and instrumentation is an important item that can help ensure a much better placing in the Championship for Team Canada.
Reaching our goal of $25,000 means the Canadian Team can best represent our country on the World stage and make Canada proud!
