Daniela Vargas is being deported -- because she didn't have $495 to renew her DACA (deferred action) status.

And because she spoke out at a press conference about ICE's detention of her father and brother. After the press conference, ICE grabbed her.

Washington Post: ICE nabs young "dreamer" applicant

No child of ours, raised in America, should be deported because they don't have $495. Everyone eligible for deferred action should know their rights and consider an application or renewal ASAP (note: while most in the legal community agree that current dreamers should renew their protections, experts disagree whether eligible dreamers who haven't yet applied should risk coming forward now for the first time, given "changing winds" in Washington).

We hope to raise enough money to help 1,000 dreamers renew or apply for deferred action (and then, we hope to challenge funders, policy makers, and others to ensure that every person who is eligible for and wants deferred action is able to apply). We are setting up a segregated fund for this work, and aim to partner with grassroots organizations like United We Dream to help get the word out and help students get support.

Please consider giving $5-10, or $100, or $495 to help us get started; from there, we will reach out to major donors with the aim of achieving our larger goals: raising awareness and ensuring that thousands of eligible dreamers are able to secure or renew their status, as President Obama intended when he issued the deferred action Executive Order in November 2014.

We don't want this to be about us, but we've been told we should say more about Fight for a Better America (to assuage any potential fears about our intentions or legitimacy). We are an advocacy organization (FEC PAC Committee C00630582) newly formed to mobilize leaders and the public to fight for stronger and more ethical service, effective policy, and a more equitable future for all Americans. We were founded by four MBAs (plus a Wharton grad) with backgrounds in investment banking, tech, management consulting, government, and education. To learn more about the organization, please visit Fight for a Better America.

Many thanks in advance for your partnership.
