CamilleStrong vs. Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Camille, an Irish-dancing, athletic, intelligent, 19 year old resident of Dublin, California, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. She had no symptoms before the diagnosis. A small lump was discovered on her throat at a routine check up and after 7 months of inconclusive doctor visits, the cancer was confirmed. The Chabot family and the medical community had to act quickly to save Camille's life.
Camille was forced to drop out of her sophomore year at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo just 2 weeks before her move- in date so that she could begin an agressive 7 month chemotherapy treatment. It has been a very difficult time in the Chabot home, but Camille’s strength of character has not gone unnoticed. She was asked to speak at the local middle school about her journey, at the Rotary Club and at the Sandra J. Wing Foundation Gala. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-y6yUnfoNc Camille has been interviewed by Juliette Goodrich on CBS http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/tag/camillestrong/, Patch, and local papers. The hashtag #CamilleStrong has gone viral and has inspired her, and hundreds of others to push forward every day – even when it feels difficult.
Camille found online classes so that she wouldn't fall behind at school, and called her boss at her past summer internship so that she could continue working on her "good days" while she remained at her parents. She could have easily chosen to remain in her room for these months but instead seeked making the best out of the situation God has given her.
Photos are seen with the #CamilleStrong sign of support in countries around the world including Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, France, Spain, Granada, Brazil , India and Africa! These social media posts (along with watching Ellen and listening to Taylor Swift & Sam Hunt) help Camille get through her most difficult days.
Camille was the 2012 Young Citizen of the Year for Dublin. http://www.dublin.ca.gov/documentcenter/view/4134 Bad things really do happen to good people, and good people help good people in need. Friends ,family and strangers have rallied to support her. (and even President Obama, The Oakland A's, and Scott Adam's Dilbert have personally given Camille a Shout Out!)
Camille and her family decided to create some good out of the circumstances and formed a CamilleStrong Foundation to help those in need of financial assistance for fertility treatment and other side effects not covered by insurance due to childhood cancer. We will update you all when the bylaws have been approved for the foundation and we have found doctors to donate a portion of their services.
Camille will not accept money (personally) for speaking engagements. She will, however accept a donation for future treatments due to infertility.
