Save Myrtle!

Donation protected

Myrtle Cothill is a frail 97-year-old South African lady at risk of removal from the UK to South Africa.

She suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and macular degeneration causing sight loss.  She cannot walk unaided, has a chronic cough, poor vision, is hard of hearing and unable to care or cook for herself. She currently lives with and relies on her 71-year-old daughter Mary Wills, a qualified carer and British citizen who lives in Poole, for emotional and physical support.

Having come to the UK in February 2014 on a visitor's visa, Myrtle's application for leave to remain in the UK was refused both by the Home Office and the Courts.

With YOUR help, we managed to fight for two grants of leave to remain on human rights grounds - but these are coming to an end in May 2021.

Without your help Myrtle will not be able to apply for further leave to remain and is at risk of being removed by the Home Office to South Africa where she has nobody to look after her and nowhere to stay.

Here is a message from Mary, Myrtle's daughter:

My Mum and I would like to thank you for all your tremendous help and support in the past! You literally saved my Mum's life!

Now my Mum is at risk again of being separated from me. I have lost my husband Dave last year and my Mum is the only one I have left - and I am the only one she has.

We appeal from the bottom of our hearts to help my Mum stay in the UK by helping with the legal costs, Home Office fees and medical report costs to fight for her right to stay.

We cannot take this step without your support!

Please donate to my Mum's legal fund. Any donation - however small - is a life saver. We can only do this with your help!

We only have two weeks left to apply for a new visa, so please donate today.

With heartfelt thanks,

Mary & Myrtle"

Any donation, however small, will help Myrtle remain in the UK, under the loving care of her daughter.

Thank you for your care and concern,

Jan Doerfel (Chambers of Jan Doerfel)

How donations will be used

All donations will be used to help Myrtle's fight to remain in the UK. They will be used to cover legal costs, costs for medical reports, legal advice in immigration law and Home Office fees (where applicable).

The money will be held on Myrtle's client account with her legal representatives, the International Care Network (ICN). ICN will then pay the invoices for necessary medical reports and barristers' invoices for the preparation of Myrtle's application for further leave to remain/human rights application.

Update of 20 August 2021

The target sum has been increased by £7,500 to £20,000 to support the preparation of a legal case to prevent Myrtle & Mary from facing imminent destitution.
