Hedgie's fight for life

This is a love story between a beautiful shitzhu and his owner, Alex. My fiance Alex has been through so many trials tribulations since a devastating car accident left his single mother handicapped when he was just a teenager. Since then he took on the responsibility of looking after his mom, and raising his two significantly younger siblings, Nicki and Alyssa. He played the role of brother, father and loving son while putting himself through university and working 3 jobs. Since then, he hasn't been able to catch a break, but through all of Alex's hardships his baby puppy Hedgie was there to see him through it all and gave Alex unconditional love and support. He was Alex's right hand man. He is his best friend and confidant. Every time he walks through the door Hedgie is as excited to see Alex as the first day he got him 9 years ago. He looks up at my fiance with love, and you can almost hear him say, "welcome home baba. I missed you! Follow me back into the apartment!"
In early October of this year Hedgie was diagnosed with a perianal abscess which required immediate surgery. Due to Hedgie's age it took him about 3 weeks to heal and Alex and I were overjoyed to see that Hedgie made it through unscathed. Unfortunately at the end of October we noticed that Hedgie had a substantial amount of blood in his urine and took him to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic to find that he had multiple bladder stones. The emergency clinic offered to operate on him the next day in fear of having the stones move to his urethra, however we were not able to afford the surgery as it would have cost us around $5000. We could only pay for the antibiotics and pray that the stones remained in the bladder.
We were able to squeeze Hedgie in for surgery at our local vet days later, however our worst fear came true. An X-ray demonstrated that one of the stones had moved down to the tip of the bone in his penis, blocked his urethra and he required an immediate double surgery. The surgery almost cost him his life as he spent almost a week in intensive recovery. He has since recovered from his life threatening surgery but now his kidneys are failing. Since the time we brought him home, he doesn't have the energy to greet us at the door anymore. He barely props his head up to acknowledge we've arrived home. On an emotional level, my fiance is withering away as much as Hedgie is physically. Neither of them eat, and all Alex can do is sit beside his best friend with prayers in his heart, and his hand on Hedgie's furry head.
Lately Hedgie spends his days hooked up to an IV machine, desperately trying to get his kidneys cleansed of all the toxins in his body. Lately he spends his time shivering due to the rapid weight and sugar loss in his body. Lately...he's been having a hard time simply keeping his eyes open. His will to live is almost indomitable but he is doing worse than ever and now needs an ultrasound and kidney biopsy which will cost us upwards to $1500 to figure our why its not working so that we can save him.
With the two of us already spending around $4,000 and using mostly credit cards for tests, surgeries, prescribed food & medications from both emergency and vet clinics we are currently out of options and can't afford the ultrasound and biopsy. We can't imagine having to give him up on him as he is an essential part of Alex's life and we have put so much effort into getting him better. It is breaking our hearts to see him in pain and we are trying everything in our power to help him ASAP. So Alex and I are kindly asking for any donations to help keep Hedgie with his lovely family. We're asking for help for the biopsy/ultrasound and the looming treatment following that. Please help us give Hedgie the chance to fight for the life he deserves.
