Research Trip for my Memoir

In the summer of 1968, a young man from a small town in a rural part of Scandinavia left home to pursue the American dream. The youngest of six children, he left Hadsund, Denmark and arrived in Beckley, West Virginia, where his life changed forever. But why did he leave? What secrets did he leave behind? Unfortunately, few are left who know. This young man was my father, and he died when I was only 15 years old. Now, I am writing a memoir about my life, and my father plays a pivotal, primary role in the book, which is currently about 2/3 completed. I would like to travel to his hometown and interview any friends, relatives, former teachers -- anyone I can find that can give me a glimpse into why a 17-year-old kid would leave such a bucolic and seemingly perfect life to relocate to Appalachia. The money raised will go to plane tickets, car rental, food, shelter and other travel expenses. Please help me make this dream come true and tell the complete story of a man who remains somewhat of a mystery to me.
