SULAWESI TSUNAMI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
Sulawesi Families Need our Support: (Big thanks to all our friends & please share if you can)
It is super painful to share these photos with you with Sulawesi death toll figures are still coming in (now over 2,000 dead 4 October) :(
The Tsunami & two Earthquakes of 7.4 and 7.7 have hit, and every 15 minutes for over two hours, the Sulawesi families lost homes and lives. Hundreds are dead, thousands are injured and all the services are stretched. A big portion of the Sulawesi Army and emergency services are in Lombok helping the Lombok disaster relief, also worryingly to compound the suffering even more .. monsoon rain is coming.
More: We have been working beside Army & BMPB emergency response and for those that have been following us know we are effective in helping. Our Aid model to help Lombok for very little money has now helped tens of thousands and we are now systemised & more than ready to duplicate our team and help Sulawesi ... but we just need the funding to help.
OVERVIEW by Amanda
On Friday September 28th, 2018 the beautiful island of Sulawesi suffered a series of earthquakes similar to those experienced in Lombok/Bali and Gili Islands recently. The most serious of quakes reaching heights of 7.4 & 7.7 on the richter scale, with a series of strong aftershocks >5 every 15 minutes for over 2 hours. These shallow quakes triggered a tsunami warning for the area which was soon lifted. Minutes after people felt safe to return to the streets to survey the damage.
We have learned that 2 devastating tsunami waves proceeded to wash onshore killing hundreds of people. We have seen countless photos of mass casualties caused by the tsunamis; and we are aware that hundreds more injured or dead continue to be stuck under the rubbled houses waiting to be found just like we experienced here on Lombok. As Sulawesi is a logistical challenge to visit, we fear the amount of aid provided to their injured and displaced will be overwhelming. Sulawesi has identified over half of Lombok’s total dead in only 24 hours. We fear the number of deceased and displaced will be astronomical as we’ve witnessed countless photos of the dead lined up on the streets. As many of you are aware, we have been working beside the Indonesian Military and the Indonesian Emergency Disaster Response here on Lombok directly after the disaster and for the past 8 weeks. We have created a fast, cost efficient model of displacement response here on Lombok that we now need to mobilize to Sulawesi. Local organizations such as TNI, BMPB and NGO’s have stretched their resources thin over the last two months.
Now that the people of Sulawesi are experiencing a similar experience with smaller resources we feel the need to respond quickly. Our aid model for Lombok costed little money to help tens of thousands. We are now systemized and more than ready to duplicate our efforts to help Sulawesi. All we need now is funding to help. Please donate to our Sulawesi Gotong Royong to help and stop the suffering.
