Donated C3FT V2.0 for HPD
Donation protected
More than 4,000 wrecks between motorists and pedestrians or bicyclists were recorded in Houston city limits from 2010 to June 2015, according to data obtained from the Texas Department of Transportation. In an effort to curb those numbers from growing the City of Houston enacted the 3 Ft Safe Passage Ordinance (Chapter 45 – Traffic, Article XII. – Sec. 45-44. Vulnerable Road Users). This ordinance allows for a fine of up to $500 yet there have only been a handful of tickets given in the past two years.

A bicycle mounted electronic system, C3FT V2.0, that allows law enforcement to detect, capture, and display the proximity of passing vehicles has been developed by a native Houstonian (cuurently working and living in Austin). After a meeting between Houston Ghost Bike members, Houston City Council members, and other concerned cyclists, an offer to fund the first C3FT V2.0 system and donate it to the Houston Police Department to allow HPD to evaluate this system in the hopes that more warnings and/or citations can be given in an effort to educate the public about the 3 Ft Safe Passage ordinance.

The cost of the system is $1400. It's important to note that any funds donated past that goal will be used to buy 3 Ft Safe Passage decals that will be applied to city vehicles to aid in the effort to educate the public about the ordinance.
