Bungalow for Brendan
Please consider a donation to help keep this loving family together after Brendan has a spinal fusion.
Brendan is a 13 year old boy who is severely disabled with profound care needs. He is facing a spinal fusion operation - now scheduled for October 8th! - because of drastically worsening scoliosis that is literally crushing his internal organs. Brendan requires a properly equipped, suitably modified bungalow for his lone-parent mother to safely continue her full time 24/7 care of him, especially when that operation is completed. Brendan, his younger brother Declan, and their mum Tracy currently live in a rental home that doesn’t meet those requirements. There is no suitable social housing available and the wait list is years long.
This loving family needs a bungalow by the time Brendan undergoes the spinal fusion operation or he won’t be able to come home after the surgery. This cannot be allowed to happen!
Tracy has a private loan in place thanks to a generous philanthropist. She is now desperately trying to raise the remaining balance to keep her family together. A bungalow has been found, a holding deposit paid, now to raise the remaining balance.
If you would like to help this family finally get a safe, suitable, modified bungalow for Brendan, you can donate via PayPal as a gift to the gmail account of the same name as this fundraiser, bungalowforbrendan, or here via GoFundMe, but be aware they do take approximately 3% of each donation.
* NOTE: If social housing is provided before a bungalow can be purchased privately via this fundraiser, your donation will be returned in full upon your request. If you donated via GoFundMe, your donation will be returned less the processing fee they charge per donation (approximately 3%).
All donations will be directly deposited into the special bank account in care of Brendan. This fundraiser was established by his mother, Tracy.

Brendan is now 6 weeks post op. His spine is healing very well! However, he is still in hospital following a few complications (infections) and his intestinal system having difficulties accepting the re-introduction of his PEG feeds. He is still on TPN (nutrition via IV) and on a very slow rate of PEG feeds. He now seems to have picked up a virus here in hospital and that has caused a further set back in progressing his feeds. It has been, and continues to be, a very tough road for him and us as a family, being apart for so long. I go between the two boys, though primarily here with Brendan to help care for his complex needs. HOUSING UPDATE: The bungalow I had put down a holding deposit on months ago didn't work out. After nearly 5 months of solicitor's work, it turned out there were some issues that weren't acceptable and therefore we decided it wasn't advisable to proceed. I have found another suitable bungalow and am now proceeding with the purchase of it. I am desperately hoping all is clear with this bungalow and that the sale can be complete expeditiously. If it isn't completed by the time Brendan is ready to be discharged, the discussion here is that he will likely need to go into a care facility until the house is ready. While this is devastating to think about, I understand that the rental house we currently live in simply isn't safe or suitable on many levels for his complex needs. As of today, it's all in question what will happen. This second bungalow is wonderfully suitable for Brendan's needs and even has a ramp already built at one of the entrances. I would like to note that it is more expensive than the first bungalow, but we haven't the time to wait. It is suitable, in excellent condition, close to his special needs school, and it is currently vacant which will lend to us being able to move in more quickly. Even though it is more expensive, I will NOT be raising the amount of this fundraiser. Everyone has been so generous and kind, I couldn't see raising the goal. I will instead be availing of an increased loan offer from the philanthropist who is helping me with this private loan. While it will be harder financially to increase the loan amount, as they say, needs must. I will just have to make it work. Thank you again to everyone who has helped reach the goal of a BungalowForBrendan. We still have €34,950 left to raise to reach the goal as of this writing. That's just 1,398 donations of €25 each on average. I will update again soon.
Today is Brendan Bjorn's 14th birthday!! I've made this video to celebrate and I wrote an updated blog piece about his birthday, too ( https://transitioningangels.com/2018/10/01/14-years/ )
