Bull City Rebuilds
This campaign is to help the families and businesses impacted by the explosion in downtown Durham today.
It is organized by a local fundraiser but will be distributed to businesses and families, either directly or through a local nonprofit organization. It will NOT go to the organizer of this campaign.
Details will be added as they unfold. I'll also include links to individual family campaigns here.
You can email the organizer at email@example.com if you have any questions or comments.

GoFundMe wanted me to add to this info:
Who you are: Rebekah Miel
Where you're from: Durham, NC
Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for:
Community members and friends
How the funds will be used (be specific as possible):
- The money will be given directly to the individuals who were injured, and it will also be used to:
- purchase food for first responders at the scene,
- cover lost wages that won't be covered by insurance,
- help businesses rebuild,
- support families who lost loved ones in the explosion (Lee family)
If you intend to withdraw the money, how you plan to send the funds to the parties you're raising money for or use the money on their behalf
The money will be collected by Upstream Works Collaborative who will distribute a set amount to each of the injured individuals (amount TBD), then following the other list above as needed. The money will be brought directly to the individual or in extreme cases, will be brought to families through hospital social workers.
Deadline to apply is June 3, 2019.
Please share widely.
Spanish version coming soon.
And thanks to several generous business donations, we've almost doubled our original goal. Thanks to everyone for your continued generosity.
The intake forms have taken longer than we anticipated, but will hopefully be available before the end of the month.
Impacted individuals will be able to apply here (and find out about other resources): https://bullcityrebuilds.com
We're now in collaboration with the Durham OneFund which is a partnership with United Way, Triangle Community Foundation, Discover Durham, Durham County, the City of Durham, Downtown Durham Inc, and the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.
You can read more about that here: https://www.unitedwaytriangle.org/2019/04/23/united-way-of-the-greater-triangle-announces-the-durham-one-fund-for-victims-of-downtown-durhams-explosion/
Thanks again to everyone who has continued to support this cause. The impact of our collective effort is remarkable.
We want to be transparent about the logistics of how to access the funds moving forward. We originally wanted the amount to be divided equally and immediately. We also want to give the injured space, so it’s not been possible to reach everyone’s support team over the last week.
Most importantly, we don’t want anyone to be overlooked, so I’m working with a lawyer to draft a simple intake form to request funds. That form should be ready by the beginning on next week, if not sooner.
There are also several upcoming events and auctions to benefit this campaign:
The Rickhouse is hosting a dance party featuring the Mamis and Papis this Friday with lots of local businesses involved: https://www.facebook.com/events/2158852417524451/
Durty Bull Brewery is donating all tips on April 23rd and 24th to the Campaign.
Aimee Argote of des ark is auctioning off pottery on their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/p/BwR9pLvHcr3/
I know that I am missing a few and will update more later.
Lastly, I want to take a moment to hold space for the families and individuals who were injured and have reached out to share their stories with me. I won’t share them now, but know that this has impacted so many in our community. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts.
