Build a Cultural Center and Theater

A Very Special Moment in Time

A Very Special Place,

Where the Soul of the City resides

Scotts Valley has just come across a great opportunity and you can be a part of it!  We have a library. We want a community theater. Now we can have something greater than the sum of both of those parts - a combined Scotts Valley Cultural Arts Center!

Imagine dropping one child off at rehearsal and walking through the lobby to the library with another child. How about stopping at the coffee shop in the atrium between the theater and the library while you wait? Or, maybe you are itching to use your tech skills at our Maker Lab? You will be able to do all these things, as well as check out books, see beautiful visual art on display, and attend a multitude of performances, all at our Cultural Arts Center!

Scotts Valley will join cities all around the country that have embraced Cultural Arts Centers, combining libraries with performing and cultural arts, like New York, Las Vegas, Cleveland, and San Diego.  It will not only upgrade our library and provide a community theater, but it will also bring sales to our local businesses, create a night-time economy in Scotts Valley, bring in fresh revenue to the city, and become the crown jewel of our planned town center.

On April 10th, the City Council approved a proposal to explore a partnership between the theater project and the library next door to create the Cultural Arts Center to house the Scotts Valley Library and Performing Arts Center. But, they challenged the Theater Guild to raise $200,000 by July 1, 2018 to show the community's commitment to the project. This is why we launched this campaign and why we need your donations and support - to show the City Council that we want this Cultural Arts Center in our town.

The Scotts Valley Theater Guild has already raised over $380,000 in cash and pledges and hundreds of thousands of dollars in in-kind donations. We are committed to making this happen but we need your help so we can bring a real theater to our town so our talented Performing Arts Groups have a place to share their gifts with all of us.

Take a look at our newly designed engineering plans to see what we can have in Scotts Valley. A real theater, a gorgeous atrium with wall space for murals and other visual art pieces by local artists, which will make a beautiful lobby and space for library programs. There's also room for a mobile coffee shop with a patio (not shown) where patrons can enjoy our beautiful weather. Doors will connect the atrium with the library for easy access in between.  The high ceiling may even have a sun-roof!

Here's the second floor - the team room for performances, storage, and office space.

Please consider a generous donation to help us reach our $200,000 goal by May 8th. Spread the word! Tell your friends and please share the link with everyone you know!

Thank you to our entire community for your support. Together we can have a Cultural Arts Center that Scotts Valley can truly be proud of!

*Note: Can't donate now but want to later? Send us an email using the email icon at the top and we can arrange for a pledge for future donation.

*Note: Gofundme.com has given us a free page for our campaign. We don't have to pay for it and the transaction fees go to their transaction processor. Because of this they offer an opportunity for you to give them a "tip" when you donate so they can continue to offer this service.

Thank you to David Hodgin, Scotts Valley Community Theater Guild Treasurer. He will be managing the funds raised in this campaign.
