Buffy's Surgery Care Fund

Donation protected
Buffy first came to stay with us mid-winter 2015, when we agreed to kittysit while her hooman went on vacation. When we released her from her pet carrier, we immediately discovered she was in the beginning stages of breast cancer.

Buffy is still with us and her appetite is improving, yet her slowly growing tumor needs to be surgically removed by a veterinarian. Her condition is stable. She has reached a normal weight and she seems much happier and better adjusted, but there is only so much we can provide for her recovery without the help of a qualified surgeon. (Here in Ontario, there are no subsidies for pet owners on a limited income who require such care.)

We are asking people to please help us meet our fundraising goal of $5000 for this little lady's food, litter, wound dressings, blanket laundering and veterinary care.

We love her very much, and only want her to get well. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

She comes from an abusive background and we suspect the tumor may have originated from physical abuse. When she first got here she was afraid of everything and wouldn't even use the litter box for days. The tip of her nipple was missing and it was starting to bleed. We began to disinfect  it but there was an underlying illness.

Her behavior is adjusting slowly to a love-filled environment, she begins to socialize with us and our other pets, she cuddles and mooches like a normal kitty. We're not sure she'll ever be completely free of psychological trauma but with us she has reached a normal weight and is now far better equipped to endure a major surgery.

---August 2016 update---

So far, we've gotten $60 worth of donations and this went towards a veterinary visit and initial diagnosis this summer. Surgery is estimated at anywhere from $600 - $2000. There are also tests that should be done, and x-rays, that cost extra. We're not sure yet if they would have to remove all her mammary glands.

Meanwhile our family has been dealing with gas leaks under our apartment building since April that were recently confirmed by our gas company- our landlord accused us of harrassment when we asked repeatedly for help with illness this caused the whole family, and he said we imagined the odors, refusing to investigate further until Mom was able to take the matter into her own hands.

Our landlord made calls this month to the SPCA accusing us of animal cruelty towards Buffy to retaliate against Mom for forcing him to repair the gas leak. It's been very stressful and we have had no help from extended family to manage this person.

We've not able to spend a huge amount of time canvassing for donations because all our focus has gone into managing our own illness and keeping Buffy clean, fed and disinfected. We hope people can pass the link around and help spread the word about our cat Buffy's fundraiser.

As our need for help is genuine and every little bit is appreciated.

Buffy seems better than she was- obviously feels much better than she did on her arrival. Her crooked facial markings have since completely realigned and are now, miraculously, centered on her face even though she was born with the mask off center. Hopefully we can find the energy to get some pictures up soon of her new facial markings.

Buffy's energy-level and mental health are vastly improved, and she doesn't appear to be suffering that much outside of bandaid changes a few times a day. The good news is she has lost enough weight by now that she can wear a bandage around her groin without it slipping off so there's not as much work and expense laundering her blankies, and is no longer isolated to her blankets for hygiene reasons.

It would just be great if we could finally be rid of this horrible tumor. Cleaning the wound is very expensive and labour intensive, and we worry about her.

Please help us in any way you can- even just a buck or two makes a difference if people pass the link to their friends, and all donations will go directly to her veterinary care, and hopeful she will soon be able to enjoy life tumor-free.

Thanks for reading.
