Some evil person placed a three-year old purebred Boston Terrier in a box, wrapped the box in plastic to prevent air from getting in, and left it in the desert. The dog is clinging to life and is in need of expensive veterinary care. Here is his story.

I was walking my dog (Dexter) in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, March 4, 2018. Dexter by the way is a rescue from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dexter was attracted to this box that was left on the side of the road. Due to Dexter being so persistent with this box, I decided to investigate further and moved the box. To my surprise, the box started shaking.

In the box which was wrapped in shrink wrap, was a dog. It was sleeping in its own feces and did not have any food or water. It was starving and you could see all the bones in his body.

I called 911 and they transferred me to Animal Control. Animal Control was on another call and could not give me an ETA. We took the dog home and opened the box, he was too weak and unable to crawl out of the box on his own. I opted to lift him out of the box and to my horror I felt every bone in his body.

At that point, I decided there was no time to wait; gave him a drink of water and placed him into a clean box and rushed him to the pet hospital.

As of Monday, March 5, 2018. He is on IV fluids; his Liver Enzymes and Albumin are elevated from starvation. In addition, his Kidney function is low due to dehydration. He will receive his first teaspoon of food by the doctor today. At this point, it is touch and go for his recovery.

His recovery will take time and require significant money to get him back to proper health.  Some of the requirements and usage of donated funds will go towards, a long stay at the hospital, followed by home health care; coupled with special food requirements and medications.  This will provide him the best chance of survival and a normal loving life.

He was given the name Buddy, because my first reaction was “My Buddy, we will help you!”

Please Donate to Buddy, he is a loving dog that deserves a good life!!!

Buddy has now been home a week and is doing very well. Buddy and Dexter are the best of friends.

We took Buddy to the Vet at University Pet Hospital and he has the following issues

1) Patellar Luxation in his left back knee. Buddy's kneecap is dislocated from its normal anatomic position in the groove of the thigh bone (femur). There is a chance that once his quadriceps muscles in the hind legs regenerate, he will not require surgery. In the meantime the Vet suggested he take Cosequin or PhyCox Soft Chews. In addition, they suggested getting him Orthopedic & Non-Slip Dog Shoes.

2) His blood work shows he is still anemic but improving.

3) He has lots of tartar on his teeth, however he is not healthy enough for anesthesia to clean his teeth properly. In the meantime we will give him greenies and brush his teeth at home.

4) He is now 17lbs and should be at 22 pounds

5) He may require surgery in the future to open up his nostril.

Thank you for supporting Buddy on his road to recovery!!

I am very happy to report that Buddy was neutered today (4-18-2018). He will be coming home on Saturday (4-21-2018).

Buddy was made great health strides.

1) He has gained 6 pounds in 2 months. He is now 16.2 pounds.

2) Buddy's Body Conditioning Score (1 being underweight and 5 being overweight) was initially a ZERO. The Vet determined that he was starved for about 5 months.

3) His favorite treats are Greenies and Chicken Breast Wraps Bones which are sold by Trader Joes

4) He interacts well with other dogs.

5) He just wants to be held all the time and like giving doggie kisses.

6) His liver Enzymes and Albumin are back to normal.

7) His kidney function is getting back to normal. He drinks lots of water. The Vet claims this is normal since his body is adjusting to the weight gain.

8) Buddy is very active and climbs stairs now.

We can hardly wait to get him home. It's been along two months.

Buddy is slowly improving. He is gaining weight and starting to play with other dogs.

He will not be allowed to come home until he is healthy enough to be neutered and chipped.

Thanks for the concern. Please keep the prayers coming. We can't wait for him to come home!!
