Friends! Do you wish there was a nearby retreat center where you could connect to  monastics and a community of supportive people? Where you could hear the Dharma, explore the teachings, and return home to apply these perspectives to your daily experiences?

Buddhist Insights www.buddhistinsights.com , a flourishing non-profit organization whose mission is to spread the Dharma, has committed to move their HQ to New Jersey. The Newark property we hope to purchase is only 2.2 miles from Newark Penn Station. The property is only a MetroCard swipe away from NYC:  just hop on the Path train in Lower Manhattan and a 30 minute ride will take you to Newark.

The retreat center will welcome all who wish to participate and be a place where spiritual community can thrive. Once Buddhist Insights is located in Newark its current offerings of meditation programs and Dharma talks in multiple NYC venues will expand to multiple venues throughout New Jersey. Monks and nuns of various Buddhist lineages from around the world will come to the new retreat center to teach classes, workshops, and retreats.

On the property, there's a a large 15,000 sq ft building with parking and grounds for gardening. The building will be renovated to contain large kitchen and dining areas, accommodations for overnight retreatants, a meditation hall where sanghas can meet with additional space for teaching events and living quarters for long-term monastic and lay residents.

There are no fees for anyone to participate in Buddhist Insight events. The organization operates entirely within the Buddhist tradition of Dana (donations).  This practice allows the teachings to be accessible to everyone and gives participants the opportunity to develop generosity out of a sense of joy and gratitude. The organization has been featured on The New York Times, Vogue , and many other publications.

Bhante Suddhaso and Sister Soma are the co-founders.  Bhante, the guiding teacher, was ordained in the Theravada tradition, having studied under Bhante Gunaratana and Ajahns Viradhammo, Passano and Amaro and in the Soto Zen tradition, having studied under Revs. Myo Denis Leahy, Ryushin Paul Haller and Tenshin Reb Anderson. Sister Soma recently ordained in the Theravada tradition by Ven. Pannavati.

We can help by donating within our respective means for purchasing the New Jersey property.
