Last week my sister was involved in a fatal accident that almost took her life in front of her six year old son. She was rushed to the University of Utah where she was rushed into emergency surgery with a team of spinal specialists. X-rays confirmed four fractures in her C-1 (Atlas) and multiple fractures in her C6 and C7. Our family was given the heart breaking news Brook had a 96% chance of becoming a quadriplegic or even die during surgery. The surgery was a success! The spine specialists ended up fusing her C6 and C7 while using a “halo” head device for her C1 to heal on its own to preserve range of motion and mobility in her cervical spine. Miraculously, Brook was able to walk out of the hospital days after being admitted. Our family is politely asking for your assistance as this single mother is on bed rest and cannot work for medical expenses, bills and to provide Christmas for her son.
