I have a dream of filling a need that I see in the Columbus, Ohio community. I live in a wonderful city with a flourishing economy and an exciting future. I want to help build that future for our city.
I am lucky to have a unique perspective of the running world in my line of work as a race director. I get to not only help people reach their goals, but I get to hear what they want and need from what this city has to offer and I have the privilege of being in a position where I can see the need, and I can fill it.
There was never a great idea that came to flourish without strong support of the community that surrounds it.
My vision is to open Brokeman's Running Co. - Company, Community, Cooperative.
This building would be a Co-op that would include a runner's hostel, a runner's thrift shop, and a shared/event space that would be available for it's members to use as they wish; whether it be to organize a group run, put on their charity race, host a class or a seminar, or anything else they see fit.
Money is something that stands in the way of so many other's dreams. Mine as well, since I am working with a crowdfunding site. I want to take the obstacle of financial constraints away from people so they have a better availability to make their dreams happen. That constraint might be the race fees, the hotel prices, or getting proper clothing. Or maybe you want to put on an event of your own but you don't know where to start or can't afford to rent a space or marketing for your event.
Our co-op will be publicly used, but member driven. Anyone may use the space for whatever they need, but our members will receive special benefits, pricing and an ownership in the company itself. They will be invited to use and work the space as well as attend board meetings and member "town halls" where they can give their ideas and help us make the building a true community space.
Every penny raised through this GoFundMe campaign will be used to establish and grow the space. We will be using approximately 50% of the proceeds to put into a savings account to help us cover the bills and rent of the location for the first 9 months to 1 year. 30% of the funds raised will be used to put into the building to make it practical for use. This will include any updating to the location, purchase of beds, dressers, security systems, tables and chairs, washers and dryers, etc. We will also be accepting donations for any of the material items and services needed. The remaining 20% will be used to hire the help needed to maintain the building.
Any extra money received through this campaign will be put directly into our scholarship fund. The board will be voting on how these funds will be distributed to the running community.
I can see this vision so clearly, now I need you to help me make it happen.
