Help Mel's Fish Come Home!
Mel’s Fish, located in the heart of the Crenshaw district, started as a small storefront by entrepreneur Mel Powell, known for serving up traditional Louisiana favorites such as red snapper, shrimp, po-boy sandwiches fried seafood favorites to the discriminating palate of Southern Californians since 1982.
Georgette, Mel’s daughter, took over in operation in 1997 and has expanded Mel’s grilled menu to include healthier options such as grilled salmon salad with its own signature ginger vinaigrette dressing and grilled fish wraps served with a delicious, homemade garlic dill sauce.
This 33 year old iconic establishment is now need of an upgrade. In a much smaller temporary location just three blocks west of the original Mel’s is where we reside today, but now it’s time to bring Mel’s Fish home!
Georgette undertook the task of upgrading the restaurant and is raising the last phase of funding to complete the mandatory renovation of its original location to continue her father’s legacy and to provide the community with a clean, good, affordable restaurant serving the “best fish and seafood known to man.”
