Evacuate and Heal Hugo
Following intense global public outcry and extensive search efforts, US citizen and Border Angels human rights activist Hugo Castro was found alive on Tuesday, April 19th! Yet, while thankfully he is not another statistic in a country where thousands disappear each year, he is far from safe. Hugo appears to have been the victim of a serious and violent crime. He has sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition. We are unable to release further information at this time, as we believe his life is still at risk and ask that the public refrain from speculation.
Due to his precarious medical condition, and the very real possibility that his life remains in danger, it is urgent that Hugo obtain secure paramedic transportation back to the United States as soon as possible. However, even in such extreme cases, the U.S. Embassy does not provide financial assistance for medical transport, which in this case is a breathtakingly high amount. As a result, Hugo must rely on the generosity of supporters like you, friends, and colleagues, to raise the funds for his immediate safe evacuation.
Please, give whatever you can to help us get Hugo to safety in the U.S. as quickly as possible. I will withdraw the donations and give them directly to Hugo to cover paramedic transport and medical recovery costs.
PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW THIS TERRIBLE ACT OF VIOLENCE TO SILENCE HUGO'S VOICE OR DICTATE HIS RECOVERY.
As Hugo's family, we thank you deeply for supporting a man who saves the lives of those he has never met, asking nothing in return.
- Noemi Castro, Hugo's sister
Deep thanks for all your continued support and prayers for my brother's well being. Hugo is getting better daily and has been transferred to another medical facility. We still do not have details on the cause or extent of his injuries and will keep you updated. We greatly appreciate your respecting our privacy as this has been a difficult time for all of us.
Thank you for all the support and love you have shown Hugo and Border Angels!
We have revised the funding goal to focus on getting my brother back to the US as quickly as possible. After that, Hugo may have additional medical expenses once his condition is evaluated and we have an understanding of level and duration of treatment he will need.
Right now our paramount focus is on his paramedic evacuation and personal safety.
We will update with additional information as soon as possible. Thank you for all the love for Hugo and his work!
I am Noemi Castro, Hugo's sister. Please note that I will be withdrawing your donations and delivering them to Hugo directly to cover his medical transport and treatment. We plan to deliver these funds as soon as possible so that we can get him to safety. I will update more on timing soon. Thank you all!
