Our former #TeamDPS school leader, Mechelle Renfroe followed a dream of hers to teach abroad while also spreading the word and love of God in Dubai. On October 28th, after a few short months of teaching in Dubai, Mechelle suffered a massive stroke on her left side affecting her right side and she is currently hospitalized in Dubai. Her brother, Carlos Renfroe, immediately flew out to be by her side in Dubai. He has been updating us all daily on the circumstances. Mechelle is a “4” on the Glasgow Coma Scale. The range is a 3 to 15, with 3 being completely unresponsive state. The neurosurgeons have explained that she could be in this state for many, many years to come. Unfortunately, in Dubai, DNR (do not resuscitate) is NOT honored/recognized/allowed. This leaves the family in a precarious position with very limited options for Mechelle as she is a “4” on the Coma Scale.
Carlos, a veteran of the United States Air Force, is in a single income household and is currently away from his wife, children, and work to attend to this matter. He must depart from Dubai shortly and return to his family and job.
Mechelle’s brother and his pastor (who accompanied Carlos to Dubai) have been at the hospital each day, communicating with the doctors daily, and have also visited the US embassy and consulate… to no real avail.
We are searching for a way to transport Mechelle back to the states, so that her family can make decisions on her behalf with more freedom than Dubai allows, but it is extremely expensive to transport her with a form of Medevac … over 8,000 miles. She would survive transport to the United States.
We don’t want Mechelle to be left alone in Dubai in this state. Alone. All alone. This is simply not fair to Mechelle. She deserves better. Her family deserves peace and closure. Mechelle deserves dignity.
