On the 28th February 52 year old Liam Mc Carthy from Limerick suffered a life changing stroke in Fethiye, Turkey. He was taken to Isparta University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition on a life support machine. He has never regained consciousness and has no movement. The full extent of of the trauma is not yet known. Liam’s sisters Elaine and Dee have flown to Turkey to be with him and are waiting for the results of neurological tests which will determine the extent of the damage to Liam’s brain.
Liam is too sick to move at this time and his health insurance will not cover all of the hospital expenses. The first week of Liam’s medical treatment cost the family €2000.

We are raising funds for Liam’s medical care and hopefully to get him home to Ireland when he is well enough to travel. At the moment we have no idea how long Liam will be in hospital or what treatment he is going to require in the future. It is unlikely that he will ever make a full recovery.

Please help us to help Liam by donating. Anything you are able to contribute will be very helpful to the family. Like and share this link on your Facebook timeline to help us spread the word.

Thanks to your generosity and kindness we have been finally able to bring Liam back. Although the circumstances are not what we had hoped for, we feel that this is the best outcome for Liam who faced a horrific future locked-in, unable to make contact with others. Those of you that knew Liam know that he liked nothing better than interaction with others. He could sit and chat for hours.
We are closing this funding campaign and can now concentrate on laying Liam to rest with his beloved mother and father in Kilmurry where he belongs. We are eternally grateful to everyone who has contributed to our campaign by donating, sending messages of support and sharing our story. It is a tribute to Liam and he would be very proud to know that he is so loved.
Elaine, Deirdre and Eoin. XOXO

It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that our brother Liam has passed away. Although we are heartbroken we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family and total strangers. Together we fought a good fight. Unfortunately it was not to be. Tonight Liam is at peace, his struggle is over. Thank you all for your support and generosity. XO

Many thanks to Limerick Suicide Watch who dedicated their barbeque at the Riverfest yesterday to the BringLiamBack fund. Not only did they spend the day cooking they also took the prize for over all runner up in the BBQ competition.

This is our cousin Breandán Ó Cróinín who very kindly shared Liam s story on Raidió na Gaeltachta onThursday. If you fancy brushing up on your Irish you can hear the interview on the link below. We were surprised at how much we knew. Déardaoin 3 Bealtain, it s 15 mins. 45 seconds in.
Its hard to say how Liam is doing at the moment. The messages from Turkey are that he is fit to travel, but the doctors here don t agree. In the meantime we re fund raising and are getting loads of help, for which we are extremely grateful.
We include a group photo from last weeks Lions Club walk.
Thank you for sharing Liams story................................
