Basic Income in the EU2019 election

Europe is ready for basic income! But are our elected representatives also ready? In 2017, a narrow majority of the European Parliament voted against looking at basic income as a possible answer to the challenges of digitalisation and automation. But hey, that can be changed! At the European Elections in May 2019, we can elect more open minded candidates to the new Parliament.
How to make sure this happens? Unconditional Basic Income Europe (UBIE) is planning to ask all candidates to the European Parliament, about their views on basic income. We will also ask if they would support concrete projects on the EU level towards the realisation of basic income – such as the introduction of a Eurodividend, a modest basic income floor for all Europeans. MEPs will be encouraged to openly state their views on #BasicIncome and we will make this issue a hot topic during the EU 2019 Campaign.
Do you agree that Europe needs bolder proposals to counter the forces of insular nationalism and disintegration? We are alarmed how many of our fellow citizens who feel let down by mainstream policies turn towards nationalist parties that promise relief at the cost of European solidarity. All this threatens the European project, the viability of the monetary union and, most importantly, it affects directly the life of millions of Europeans who struggle to live a peaceful, decent life. If you think that an EU-wide basic income model could help pre-establish solidarity among Europe’s citizens and member countries please support our campaign.
The funds will be used to work on the creation of a pro-UBI campaign and make basic income a hot topic during the European Parliament elections. We will also provide new, unique and timely information on MEP support for basic income and future committment to this policy.
