As most of you already know, Brian had surgery to repair his aorta three weeks ago. Brian knew that the surgery was extensive and, like all surgeries, came with risks. Some time during the surgery one of those risks occurred and Brian suffered a spinal cord stroke. This has left Brian without the use of his legs to ambulate and the doctors have stated that it is likely permanent.

Looking ahead, besides recovering from the surgery, Brian will be undergoing extensive rehabilitative therapy over the next several months. This will likely take place in Wausau, WI and will allow him to advance as far as his body will allow. It does seem likely that Brian will require the use of a wheelchair to get around in the future.

The major life change for Brian and his wife, Lori, will create a new “normal” for them. This will likely include remodeling their home and the purchase of a wheelchair accessible vehicle. These costs, along with being away from home for surgery recovery and rehabilitation can be staggering. It is my wish that Brian and Lori not have to worry about the costs of what they are facing in the near future.

That is the reason that this page is being established. Please donate what you can to help Brian and Lori with these costs.

Here is an update on Brian. Many of you know that he finally returned home in mid-December!! He has been and continues to receive both physical and occupational therapy at home. In my visits and phone calls with Brian and Lori, I have found them to be in good spirits and accepting their "new normal." The original information that Brian and Lori received regarding his paralysis is true in that Brian is paralyzed from his waist down.

This means that Brian's primary mode of transportation is a wheelchair. In addition to medical expenses, Brian and Lori have incurred additional expenses for medical devices (hospital type bed and chair, wheelchair accessible van, etc) and numerous medical supplies.

After looking at the options in their home, they have decided that the addition of a new bathroom/shower that can facilitate a wheelchair was necessary. The option of changing their existing bathroom was neither functional nor cost effective.

Brian and Lori want to thank each of you that have helped them financially. It is truly appreciated!! If you have not reached out yet or if you can assist further, it will be very much appreciated as they continue making their home functional. Again thank you to all of those that have assisted the Rippeys in any way.
