Brentwood Elementary's Odyssey of the Mind 4th-grade team made their first appearance at the 2018 Delta Regional Competition. At the time they were in 3rd grade with little to no experience with Odyssey of the Mind. Lead by their coaches Suzi Redman and Lisa Ehrlich, they spent 4 and 1/2 months learning and designing a solution to a complex problem. They used their creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness to solve the problem and earned 2nd place at the Delta Regional Competition; moving them to the 2018 California State Competition (State). At State, they placed 6th place leaving them out of contention for the World Finals Competition, since only the top 2 teams move onto World.
The 7 Brentwood Elementary students came back this school year driven to solve another one of Odyssey of the Minds problems. Learning from their mistakes, they engineered a solution that highlighted their best qualities; talented, witty, innovative, and crafty. On February 23rd, Abram Barbosa, Jacob Ceja, Lauren Dodson, Lola Ehrlich, Brayden Hereford, Molly Redman, and Sam St. Michel won 1st place at the 2019 Delta Regional Competition. The team moved onto the 2019 NorCal State Competition on March 23rd and won 2nd place earning them a spot at the World Finals Competition in Michigan.
The World Finals Competition at Michigan State University, in East Lansing Michigan, is a week-long beginning May 22nd and ending May 25th. The funds donated this next month will cover the team's airfare, room and board, and shipping fees. Please help this phenomenal team present their solution at the World Finals and continue to make our community proud.
