My nephew Brecken Owens has been diagnosed with leukemia.  Friends and family are using this platform to raise funds to support the WAR on cancer.  Moving forward any donations will be donated in Breckens name to St. Jude Research Hospital to help others battling childhood illness. Any amount would be appreciated and will be used to help save lives.  Please feel free to share our fund with your friends and family.

After day 17 of treatment, here is an update:
So far, Breckens body has responded very well to the treatment- his levels look great for this stage in the game. We got his MRD levels back from the bone marrow extraction on Monday (a huge checkpoint)- after starting with 88% of his marrow being cancer cells, there are now less than 10,000 cells, or under 1%. This does not mean that we are in the clear by any means, but it is fabulous news nonetheless. We will have another spinal tap and bone marrow extraction on Monday, along with a very aggressive day of treatment.

Yesterday we checked on Sweet V. She’s doing well, steadily gaining weight and measuring a whopping 5 lbs 10 oz. Dr Dulaney put me on low carb until due date- which is no fun for a pregnant lady stress eating.

Breck took his chemo like a champ yesterday and we don’t have to go back to clinic until Thursday! They are watching his hemoglobin levels to see if he may need another transfusion, though. Also, Dr Pui will be back in the US Thursday so we’re excited to see him and see what he says. Our dr yesterday said his white blood cells came back negative which means they don’t detect cancer in his blood. We will still get the Lumbar Puncture next Monday to see what his bone marrow is. We pray and want it to be negative!

Lastly, we’re moving out of Tri Delta house and moving into our apt today! We’re so grateful St Jude found something for us so that we can have a home when Vale arrives in around 5 weeks. We’re seeing so many people donating and giving back to St Jude recently and it just warms our hearts to know we have great friends willing to help others. St Jude is ran on donations alone and it take over $2 million PER DAY to stay afloat. Breck’s treatment over this course will cost over $1 million dollars. We are so blessed to be here and seeing so many people making sure ALL children are taken care of. It’s something you don’t want to experience first hand, but it puts things in perspective and makes you appreciate the life you do have. I will never take anything for granted again.

Thanks, again, for all the love and support! Keep your prayers coming! #battlelikeaBOS

Breckens white blood count is cut in half again and is now at 1.1... his lumbar puncture results came back in as well from Monday's procedures and it was negative! So he doesn't have leukemia in or around his brain. This is huge! They can now lower his labs to every 12 hours, rather than every 8, and doesn't have to be put down again until day 15- which is automatic. He also will avoid several treatments that could have long term effects. All great news! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support.

Yesterday, Becken had surgery to input a port to administer most of his medicines and chemo, a spinal tap, and bone marrow extractions from both hips. Most of the results came back great, but his marrow is 88% infected by the leukemia cells. This is not terrible; it is just not ideal. This will just mean that his liver will have to break down more. We caught it early and it responds much better for kids 1-9 years old. The first 15 days are crucial to the marrow treatment, then the next checkpoint is 6 weeks- that's when cell specialization will begin specifically for his strain
