EDIT: my initial ask has been increased from $2,500 to $3,200 to account for fees GoFundMe takes, as well as upcoming ultrasounds that were unanticipated.
Over the past week, I noticed Breadstick starting to be a little more clumsy than usual but since he’s always been a clumsy puppy, I didn’t think much of it. Over the past two days, his condition deteriorated so drastically that I took him to DoveLewis at 7pm on Sunday evening. Breadstick (legal name Riker) has become incredibly wobbly. He sways and bobs uncontrollably when standing, he can no longer walk in a straight line, and if he takes more than four steps, he falls over or completely collapses. He has lost all energy completely, and can hardly move.
After a few hours, the vet, Dr. Josh Cruz, said that while his vitals are strong, his condition is extremely concerning, and his rapid deterioration is “scary.” He says he has no idea what it could possibly be, but suggested we do an initial bloodwork panel as well as a fecal test and viral exam.
His bloodwork came back abnormal, but doesn’t point in any specific direction without further diagnostic testing. It’s possible that it could be anything from liver failure to a parasite attacking the nervous system. The bloodwork panel and fluids alone are over $600, but more testing is needed before we can get Breadstick any help.
Monday morning, he’ll be taken to VCA Southeast for more diagnostic testing, and I’ve been given an estimate of $2,500 on the low end for all care, assuming we can find the issue quickly
Breadstick is only 10 weeks old, and if I can get him the care he needs now, I can help him live a happy life full of the energy he had just a few days ago. I will post frequent updates at every opportunity, as well as receipts for transparency. Please, if you’re able to help, I can’t tell you how much it would mean to me and Breadstick.
