Brandon was actively fighting the Klamathon fire on July 5th, 2018.  During initial attack, his engine was burned over, and he sustained severe burn injuries to his face. Brandon was flown to UC Davis ICU Burn Center. He has been admitted here since the incident. He is recovering well, considering the injuries. The medical team has been incredible and amazed by the rate of recovery Brandon is making. CalFire has been nothing but amazing and supportive and we are overwhelmed by the brotherhood and support services they have provided.

Brandon’s recovery will limit his ability to return to his normal overtime schedule this fire season. As a firefighter, overtime is where he makes a significant amount of his income. My goal is to help raise funds for Brandon to assist him with personal expenses and bills to cover the year. His income will be significantly affected by this incident and any support will help. We are grateful for all the love and well wishes being sent this way.

From Brandon:

Thank you to everyone who has reached out the past couple of days. I'm doing better and thankful for all the support I have received.

Thank you to CalFire for providing myself and my family with resources and support throughout the entire process. They have gone above and beyond to ensure we've been taken care of in the best way possible.

Thank you to Mt. Shasta Ambulance, REACH, Fairchild, and UC Davis for the excellent medical care. A lot of my recovery has been attributed to the high standard of medicine provided.

Thank you to The Firefighter Burn Institute. Upon landing in UC Davis, a representative was already on the ground to support me and my family. The services they have provided us are unbelievable. We are so grateful for what these guys do, and are astounded at the lengths they have gone for us.

I wanted to clarify that the decision to stop the GoFundMe was entirely a personal one. In no way has CalFire failed to support me through this. Maddy set it up on my behalf because she was concerned about some of the overtime I won't be making this season. I had no intention of making money off of this incident, and when the goal was reached I felt it was necessary to cut it off. The goal was reached faster than I had ever imagined. I don't feel as if I need more than the money that has been so generously given. Please make any further donations to the Firefighter's Burn Institute to help out the next person who needs it. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/firefightersburninstitute

I am so grateful for the immense support from all over the nation. Your words of encouragement have kept me positive throughout this ordeal.

A final update for the gofundme account.
We are amazed by everyone sharing his story. Brandon has made a significant recovery in the past few days. At this time we ask to be left alone by the media to have space to process and heal the past couple of days.

Brandon feels amazingly blessed by all the thoughts, prayers, and positivity sent his way. We are humbled by how good the world has been to us the past few days. We have met our goal and can’t believe it happened so fast. Any donations can please be made to the firefighters burn institute (see past update for link). They are an amazing foundation that has provided us with a ton of support. They deserve the money more than we do to pay it forward to the next firefighter who needs it.

Thank you so much again. You guys are amazing. - Maddy

Wow, we are amazed by the support. We have reached our goal and at this point would like to ask that any additional donations go to the Firefighter's Burn Institute. They have provided us with so much emotional support along with access to hotels/food/expenses. They have been here for us in one of our hardest times. Please donate any further proceeds to this foundation because they do an amazing job of taking care of firefighters in need and their families. The link to donate is https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/firefightersburninstitute

Thank you so much for the love and positive thoughts. We are just overwhelmed with joy at the love we are receiving. Brandon is continuing to make amazing progress and feeling better and better by the hour. Thank you all for the support! please let any further donation go to the Firefighter's Burn Institute. No words can express all that they've done for us and we would like nothing more than to pay it forward to another firefighter in need.
