On December 28, Brandon and Ashley's house caught fire and they lost nearly everything, including Brandon's cat, Zoey. It was discovered afterward that the fire was caused by a cigarette in the unit downstairs. Luckily, Ashley was at work and Brandon, who had just woken up after a night at work, got out in time.

With nothing left, especially after the holidays, Brandon needs our help. While we don't have a set monetary goal we're trying to hit, anything you'd be willing to contribute will help our big bro get back on his feet.

Thanks, everyone, and please keep Brandon and Ashley in your thoughts.

It's been roughly a month since the disaster and things are finally starting to return to normal. Ashley and I found a new home in Cottage Grove and hope to move in early next month. It'll be nice to have a place to call home again. Zoey got cremated about a week ago and that has brought a sense of closure to the most painful loss of mine. I will forever miss her, but the positive memories have become a little less heartbreaking and have actually begun to make me smile rather than cry. The silver lining, as I've said before, is how this unfortunate event has reconnected me to long lost friends. I've been living with my friend Ed these past few weeks and, even though it's been about eight years since we last hung out, we have fallen right back into place. I forgot how amazing of a person he is and, going forward, I honestly couldn't imagine my life without him in it. It's also been so heartwarming and encouraging experiencing the outpouring of compassion, love and support from all of you... it has truly been inspiring and I can't thank you enough for everything. You made such a difficult situation that much more bearable and I'm forever grateful.

It's been about a week since my last post regarding the house fire and I thought I'd provide a quick update to those of you that are concerned. Ashley and I have spent the last weekly slowly going through the remains trying to figure out what is salvageable and what should be tossed. Having to draw a line between the two has proven quite difficult for me, as I generally attach strong emotions to the things I own and letting go has never been my strong suit. On a positive note, I'm hoping today will be my last visit to the house and the last time I need to put myself through such a painful process. This weekend we will begin looking for a new place to call home. Ashley and I plan on checking out a variety of local apartments and would like to move in by February 1st, but we also understand that is quite an optimistic goal for this time of the year... So far, vacant 2-bedroom units have proven to be quite hard to find unfortunately. Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for your combination of thoughts, support, donations, help, advice... and love... I know this is somewhat of a blanket thank you, but it will have to do, for now, until things settle down and I have the time needed to thank each one of you individually. Just know that nothing has gone unnoticed and we are both truly grateful! -B.

Brandon - So sorry for the massive loss, especially Zoey. May the rebuilding of the things around you bring you peace and insight.
