Brain in Hand Minecraft Marathon

£1,045 of £150 goal

Raised by 40 people in 2 months
Created March 27, 2018
UPDATE AS OF 9 MAY 2018: We are keeping this page up so everyone can see how brilliantly it's gone, and perhaps so we can use it again next year, but our marathon is well and truly done for this year! You're welcome to continue donating if you'd like, but Positively Autistic have now received the total amount that we'd raised as of the end of the event.

ORIGINAL TEXT BELOW:

Brain in Hand’s annual Minecraft marathon is returning to mark World Autism Awareness Day and raise money for the brilliant charity Positively Autistic, who educate and create positive autism awareness, including running online radio shows. Starting at 13.00 BST on Tuesday 3rd April we'll be playing 24 straight hours of Minecraft, streamed live from Brain in Hand HQ at the University of Exeter, for the fifth year in a row!

Donations are of course welcome, but you can also help out by sharing details of our marathon, or even by joining in! We'll be streaming our buildathon live at twitch.tv/braininhand - so you can watch our progress there, and we'll put up some highlights videos later on. To be part of the action, check out details on our dedicated forum here. In short, you can join our server for as much or as little of the 24 hour event as you like, bring your friends and start a team or join a Brain in Hand staff member's team, and work together to build the most awesome castle you possibly can.

Here's what our chosen charity had to say about how much this will help them:

"Positively Autistic is a community organisation, it was established in September 2011 and set up by Joe Westlake and Tracy Roberts. The aim of Positively Autistic is to educate and create ‘positive’ autism awareness.

When we heard about the fundraising and that Positively Autistic was the chosen organisation, we were to say the least, delighted! Over the past couple of months, Joe, the co-founder, has set up an initiative with Sophie Clark to help children on the autism spectrum, Autism Movement Therapy, a dance initiative in which he was trained to do by the Founder of Autism Movement Therapy, Joanne Lara. So, this fundraising is going to help so massively out with this as well, as we do not charge the pupils a fee to come – only we ask for donations. The therapy has been making such a huge difference, and we have regular attendees."

We are setting up our campaign so that donations will go directly to Positively Autistic - Brain in Hand won't be receiving the money, so it'll all go straight to a great cause.

Well, we've reached the end!

Our team did amazingly playing for 24 straight hours, and with a lot of friends joining from all over the world too. I feel really humbled to have been part of this - especially to see that we not only hit our £150 target but ABSOLUTELY FLEW past it and ended the marathon at an astonishing, phenomenal £1,000, which will be put to such incredibly good use by Positively Autistic.

Thanks to everyone who got involved in any way, and see you next year!

Our Minecraft marathon in support of Positively Autistic is now LESS THAN FOUR HOURS AWAY!

We've already hit (and soared right past) our original target of £150 raised for our awesome local charity, but I think we can still do better!

Don't forget, you can join the game - check out how to join at bit.ly/BrainInHandMinecraft - or you can watch our livestream from 1PM BST at twitch.tv/braininhand.

I'm absolutely blown away by the fact that, with two days still to go until the marathon and having only had the donations page up for a few days, we have already reached our original target and smashed it.

Now the question is just... how much better can we do...?

So come on, we've got until the 24-hour marathon comes to an end at 1PM BST on Wednesday April 4th to raise as much money and awareness as we can for Positively Autistic. Let's do this, and see you at the game!

We're ONLY £10 AWAY from the £150 we set as our original target, and with three days still to go until the marathon starts! It's amazing to have been able to do this on behalf of Positively Autistic, but I think we can smash this target and keep on going!
Please keep sharing, spreading the word, donating, and let's make Tuesday's marathon the best ever.
