Westfield Baseball is BRADSTRONG

Westfield Baseball is BRADSTRONG……The WBL is proud to honor one of its’ own, Brad Coustan, a devoted and loving husband, father and dedicated volunteer for many years to Westfield Baseball and the Westfield community.  Brad lost his courageous battle with cancer on June 7, 2015 and now it’s our turn to give back to Brad by celebrating his life and love of Westfield Baseball by honoring him with a new scoreboard in his honor at the Gumbert Baseball Complex this Spring.

Brad and his Westfield-born wife Helene have 2 children  Ava and Victor currently in 6th and 8th grades at Roosevelt Middle School.  Brad was extremely involved in the community.  From coaching his children in tee ball at Jefferson to wearing his Cal Ripken District uniform as a WBL travel coach, to coaching youth basketball, soccer and softball, Brad was always willing to lend his time and energy to all our kids.  Brad was born in Illinois and went to high school in Maryland where he became an All State 3rd baseman, thus the love of America’s pastime came easy to the Coustan household.

Unfortunately, in November 2012, Brad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which affects plasma cells.  There is no cure for this form of cancer.  During his battle, Brad was very courageous and did not let this disease stop or define him.  Brad was often seen at the gym, racing to a business meeting or writing his blog about his daily fight.  He never slowed down.  The family raised awareness for this disease through their charity golf event, by hosting fundraising walks and by his kids sponsoring movie screenings, all with the goal to raise funds for research of a cure for Multiple Myeloma.

Brad’s blog was always titled, “Finding a Silver Lining Every Day.”  We want to keep the Silver Lining going for the Coustan family and honor Brad.  We are starting a campaign to raise funds for a new scoreboard that will bear Brad’s name for years to come.  Any remaining funds will be donated to the Coustan family for the children’s’ college endowments.
