Brad Miller's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Brad Miller, husband of Lorraine Miller,  went into cardiac arrest the morning of Monday, May 6, 2019. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors determined he suffered a heart attack and has a suspected blockage in his heart.  From the time he went into cardiac arrest until the paramedics arrived, Lorraine was administrating CPR.  However, Brad was unresponsive for the duration and it is unknown how long he was without proper oxygen.

Brad is currently in ICU where the doctors completed a therapeutic hypothermia treatment.  This required a lowering of Brad's body temperature to 91 degrees for a 24-hour period to help preserve brain function and to give him a chance to recover.  After warming Brad back to normal body temperature, he has been opening his eyes, moving his head, wiggling his toes and moving his feet.  Brad is still on a ventilator to help him breathe and is receiving food through a tube.

The doctors say the recovery process is going to be very slow and in Brad's own time.  The neurologists say his brain injury is mild, but what is unknown are his cognitive and physical abilities.  Doctors expect Brad to be in the ICU for a couple weeks while he slowly recovers before he moves to a progressive care unit (PCU) where he will likely remain for another couple weeks.  When he is ready, Brad will be moved to an inpatient rehab facility.  While at the facility, the focus will be physical and cardiac therapy.  He could potentially be at the rehab facility for four months.

If you feel moved to help Brad and his family (wife Lorraine and two step-children) financially, funds will be used for:  Uncovered medical expenses from his ICU and PCU care, uncovered future inpatient rehabilitation care expenses, medical equipment, pharmacy bills, travel expenses, in-home nursing care, loss of income and unexpected expenses.  We are anticipating these expenses to total at least $10,000.

We thank everyone who has been supporting the family through prayers, phone calls, emails, text messages, care packages, visits to the hospital, financially, and other offers of help.
