Bottle Bricks Bali
Donation protected

If you've been to Bali or any SE Asian country, you'll be aware of the problem of plastic trash amassing in the waterways, ocean and natural environment. This project is part of the solution to the plastic waste contamination problem and aims to create a cultural shift in people's perception of "trash" - and it's potential to become an income source and valuable reusable product.
We are raising awareness about responsible disposal of plastic trash in Bali and incorporating BOTTLE BRICKS made out of empty PET bottles stuffed with soft plastic trash into a methane digester tank (for latrine) and greywater system as part of our bamboo tiny house building project in Denpasar/Seminyak area of Bali.
Raising awareness and giving incentive in our local community for people to collect and stuff plastic bottles with soft plastics and other non-recyclables (like cigarette butts, toothpaste tubes, straws, broken glass, rusted metal scraps) and donate them to Bali Street Kids Project (our neighbor) or collect the income for themselves ... For each plastic bottle filled/stuffed with trash collected we will pay Rp5000 per large 1.5L bottle (AUD$0.50)
We would like to encourage local households, local shops and hospitality businesses to take up bottle bricking to dispose of their trash and are making an education campaign about how to make bottle bricks in English and Bahasa Indonesia. It's important that bottle brick contents be well-compacted for structural integrity and our education video will demonstrate how to make a sound bottle brick with a bamboo stick.
The campaign funds raised will go towards buying bottle bricks, tools and materials to complete the bottle brick methane digester toilet and greywater system.
