UPDATE:
We are excited to share with you that our team of Botetourt County student engineers has experienced success at the SW VA Regional KidWind Challenge, earning 1st place and the Judges' Award for the high school division! They have been invited to the American Wind Energy Association Convention and the National KidWind Challenge in Anaheim, CA (https://www.kidwindchallenge.org/p/17-about-nationals).
As you may know, last year’s success qualified the team for the National KidWind Challenge in New Orleans, where these students placed sixth in the United States, and earned the Judges’ Award!
These students have come together, once again, to learn about renewable energy, and to design and build a small-scale wind turbine for the competition. Earlier in the season, as the team continued to modify and improve the performance of their turbine, they traveled to Washington, DC, to speak at the AWEA Wind Power on Capitol Hill Rally, and to share their perspectives with U.S. Congressmen and business executives . They also had a brief meeting with Rep. Bob Goodlatte's Energy Policy Advisor, Angela Inglet, to share their perspective on wind energy development in rural areas.
Now the five team members are seeking your help in sponsoring their journey to the next phase of competition. They are currently seeking financial contributions to defray the turbine construction redesign and travel costs for the season. We would be most grateful for your generosity!
