Books for Kids for Christmas

Donation protected
It's back! Starting appropriately during Book Week Scotland, this is your chance to buy a book for a child for Christmas!  Donate £10, gift aid it and the whole amount will go on buying a gift that really will go on giving.

This year, I'm raising money to buy books for babies and toddlers in families supported by Save the Children  in Edinburgh and the Lothians.  You can find out more about their work to mitigate the impact of poverty among children and families in Scotland here

Why Books for Christmas?

Well, we all know how important it is for children to get the best possible start in life, and the role that books and reading can play.  My house is full of books, including favourites of my boys from when they were wee, and even some of my own childhood favourites which have been shared with them too.

When we didn't have much money, I relied on others to buy books - and we were regulars at the local library.  Books were definitely a luxury and sadly, that's still the case for many families today.  And these same families will be worrying about the cost of Christmas and how to give their children presents that last.

You can help change that.
I've set a much more modest target this year - £1000.  If we reach it, it will buy books for at least 100 children.  The more we raise, the more books we can buy.

And if you gift aid your donation, our funds will go even further.  Every penny and pound you donate will be spent on buying books  - I'll pay the charge for the fundraising.

So please do donate what you can.  And feel free to recommend books you think babies and toddlers (0-3) would like - or the ones your children or children you know liked when they were that age.

If you want to keep up with the campaign - and help spread the word! - follow @KidsBooksfrXmas on twitter (though I'll be tweeting from @burdzeyeview too).

Thank you - so much - for your support.

Kate

PS If you have children's (and adults!) books in good condition to give away, why not offer them to a local playgroup or see if your foodbank can use them.

And don't forget to recommend the books you think babies and toddlers would love to get for Christmas!
