Bodhi's Fighting Chance

$43,631 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 564 people in 11 days
On August 3rd, my dear grandson, eight year old Bodhi, was severely injured in an automobile accident.  Tragically his father and the family dog were killed instantly.

Bodhi's bowel was perforated, his liver punctured, his left elbow broken, his right arm shattered & almost torn off, and he was bleeding internally when a good Samaritan found the wrecked car and contacted the police.  First responders did not expect Bodhi to survive the transport to the hospital.

After being medivaced out, and many hours of surgery, the surgeons were able to save Bodhi life. They did the best they could to save his right arm and it appears they were successful.    His left arm was broken in three places and is in a cast; the right arm is in a sling.   Bodhi will have years of recovery.

As of August 13th, he no longer in critical condition.   He remains in stable condition at the hospital awaiting another surgery on his right arm.   There will be more in the future.

My daughter (Bodhi's mom) loves him dearly & will do her best to care for him and his eleven year old sister, but she does not have the resources for this kind of care and rehabilitation.   Bodhi will need round-the-clock care & his doctor will be 5 hours away,  in Oakland.   She is now the solo parent of two children who have just lost their father.    Bodhi needs your help.

These Go-Fund me funds are to be used only for Bodhi's medical and rehabilitative expenses that are NOT covered by insurance.

Bodhi's family will forever be grateful to Dana Taggart whose efforts set up this amazing fund.  We are overwhelmed by the generosity shown by each of you, who have given what you can to help my young grandson.   We are so grateful.  Bodhi thanks you.

From Celeste (Bodhi's mom):

INCREDIBLE NEWS! The orthopedic surgical team visited yesterday to remove the dressings on Bodhi's right arm and were truly amazed at how well the surgery took! He has complete feeling and movement of his hand!

There will be another surgery next week from the plastic surgeon to save some of the skin on the inner bicep and they will remove the staples in his torso then also which is healing well. They will splint his right arm once a week for the next month at increasing angles to build up enough scar tissue to heal the muscle but they are extremely happy with the results and are hopeful he will regain use of the arm with physical therapy.

His left arm will heal easily within 2 months but he will need a couple more surgeries down the road, one to remove the pins in his elbow and another to fix the break in his hand.

He's out of the ICU and alert, he even bickered slightly with his sister yesterday so we know he's feeling better It is still a very long road ahead to recover physically and emotionally but this news was just what our family needed right now! We appreciate all of your support, love, light and prayers flowing our way. It helps keep us afloat during this strenuous period.

A note from Celeste (Bodhi's mom):

Bodhi was taken off the ventilator last night and is breathing well on his own. He is awake in spurts and speaking to me. He is pretty heavily medicated as he is in very extreme pain from his right arm and abdomen. He luckily doesn't remember the accident at all. Currently waiting for ortho surgeons to do their rounds, as they are concerned about the swelling in his right hand. That arm is the more concerning one as the damage was so severe he almost lost it. It's still touch and go as far as regaining full use of it with much rehabilitation but we have hope his youth and strength will allow more resilience.

I cannot even begin to process the loss of Gannon from this world and our hearts are broken. The outpouring of love and support we have received from our community is truly amazing and I am so grateful. I am beginning to come out of shock and although my main focus is supporting both of children as we begin to process this tragedy there has been the looming stress of logistics and finances.

I am truly humbled by the donations that have been flooding in over the past 24 hours. I want to thank each and every one of you for helping my family get through this difficult time. I am reading all of your messages even if I don't have time to respond to them all. Keep holding us in your thoughts. So much love.

Hey, I just wanted to post a general thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, or prayed for the family. Everyone has been so generous & kind. I'm going to raise the goal, as Bodhi's rehab will last years, so I'm hoping we can raise enough to see them through all of that. Plus, you know what medical costs are like nowadays...yikes.

Anyway, thanks again & feel free to get in touch for updates.
