Thanks for taking a look at Bob's GoFundMe page, welcome! If you were brought here by Caring Bridge, thanks for your continued support!

Bob went into cardiac arrest on Friday, October 21 while he and his wife Cathy were out of town staying at their son Matthew's weekend home in Berkeley Springs, WV. The two of them had been looking forward to a weekend in the mountains of West Virginia where they were meeting up with lifelong friends from their alma mater, Wheeling Jesuit University. Just hours after their arrival at the house, before anyone had even unpacked, Bob suffered cardiac arrest during their first sit down dinner of the weekend, where they were all joking and catching up.

Once the cardiac arrest happened, Cathy and her friends provided a heroic 22 full minutes of CPR to Bob before EMTs were able to arrive. EMTs took a while to arrive since they were in the mountains, in an unfamiliar place and it takes time for the ambulance to get through the winding roads at night. Upon arrival, EMTs shocked Bob twice, and immediately took him to Cumberland, MD where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Western Maryland Medical in critical condition. He stayed there, in a coma, for two weeks, with his family by his side day and night despite the fact that they all live over 2 hours away.

After a few weeks, he was eventually moved from Cumberland, MD to Suburban Hospital back closer to home, but still in the ICU.  At this point, Bob has come out of his coma and is awake for a few hours each day, working hard to regain speech and his physical capabilities.  Small gains are big wins for the Coyne family, and they are all fighting this battle together every single day.

Still, even with small wins, Bob has been in the Intensive Care Unit for over 45 days now making slow but sure progress. On average, the ICU costs about $6,000 per day - an expensive rate that will be covered in part by insurance, but the parts that are not and the extraneous bills are starting to trickle in and have already begun to add up. He will soon be moved to an in-patient rehabilitation facility where he will receive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for an undetermined amount of time, which will only put further strain on out of pocket expenses.

Please consider making a donation to Bob's care and to help out his family, who have given every ounce of their energy to making sure that Bob has the strongest recovery possible... Let's help them to get Bob back on his feet again.

If you've met Bob even just once, then you know: to know him is to love him.  This is a guy that would give the shirt off of his back, let's all rally around the Coyne family and give them a boost when they need it most!
