Thank you for checking out our RVA 'Wrinkle in Time' GoFundMe campaign. My name is Lance Cooper (Youth Program Director & Activist) based in Richmond, Virginia. Some people may know me from the recent success with RVA's Black Panther Challenge, others might be familiar with my dedication to empowering youth in my community.

The girls I'm raising funds for are students in our youth program and kids in the RVA community. During the #BlackPantherChallenge, two things happened that made me create this campaign. First, one of the donors said to me in a Facebook comment, "...Gotta work on Wrinkle in Time for the young ladies to see a heroine save it all!" Then shortly after a little girl involved with our youth empowerment program (seen in the GoFundMe photo) nervously asked me to raise money so girls can see 'A Wrinkle in Time' movie (similar to the campaign originally launched by my friend Taylor Richardson) and expressed how passionate she is about seeing this film with her friends from school. Black girls rarely see themselves reflected in movies. With 'A Wrinkle in Time' this is another opportunity to plant creative seeds of empowerment within young girls minds and spark limitless possibilities for success in helping the world.
My goal is to provide the opportunity for girls/kids to get the experience of seeing this movie in theaters. It is extremely important for girls of color to see characters that look like them portrayed in positive, empowering ways on the big screen.
Sherronda J. Brown and the other Sisters of the Storm — like Leslie Mac, an activist who created the Safety Pin Box subscription service and the Ferguson Response Network — hope these screenings of A Wrinkle in Time will give young black girls the examples of representation they sorely lack.

It will always be necessary to counter the negative images of black people on television with something heroic and positive for African American girls. I want more black girls seeing themselves on film as intelligent sheroes.
The release of the film is March 9th, 2018, and once again I'm inviting local media in Richmond, Virginia to cover our 'Wrinkle in Time' movie experience. I will be posting video and pictures of our results, and youth reactions in theater upon viewing this film.
Your donations will go to paying for tickets for children and chaperones, as well as refreshments. We will distribute tickets within the SM Youth Empowerment Program and throughout the Richmond, Virginia area. Being that I am the youth program director & organizer of this RVA event, all donations will be securely directed to my personal account and withdrawn to purchase the tickets on behalf of the SM Youth Empowerment Program. Our ultimate goal is providing 500 girls with the opportunity to experience A Wrinkle in Time.
Ticket cost breakdown:
$11.25 per adult ticket
$8.25 per child ticket
*The remaining balance of donations after the movie experience is paid for will go to Richmond, VA Stem Education Program.
