Help Blue Regain His Vision

For transparency, we wanted to share Blue's itemized receipt for his procedures, care and first round of medication for anyone who was curious. Please feel free to read further to learn about our journey!

Blue, named for his beautiful baby blue eyes, is a husky just over one year old living in Fort Worth, Texas. He is the most loving, four legged companion anyone could ever know. Towards the end of January, he started exhibiting some concerning conditions in regards to his eyes. At his checkup a few days later, his vet noticed cataracts in both eyes and referred us to a Veterinary eye doctor. Upon his visit, it was confirmed that he did in fact have cataracts in both eyes and were told that given how rapid they developed, he will lose eyesight within the next month or two.

From there,  he needed to undergo a few tests to confirm that he was a proper candidate for the cataract removal surgery. One of the tests were to determine the health of his retina. If he were to have either a partial or fully detached retina, he would need an additional surgery to repair it.

We recently learned that Blue does in fact have a partially detached retina in his right eye after his preoperative testing. This creates quite a roadbump in his recovery. If he experiences a fully detached retina, he will lose his sight in the affected eye. There is a surgery that can be done at the same time as his cataract removal, however there are only four vets in the United States that perform this type of procedure. We appreciate every form of donation that we have received thus far. From $5-$500, each donation moves us closer to our goal and we are forever grateful of this.

One of the biggest hurdles we have encountered in regareds to funding for his treatments are the insurance companies. Pet insurance was one of the first thoughts we had when asking ourselves how we were going to pay for everything. Unfortunately, huskies have a predispostition for eye health issues such as cataracts and glaucoma. Therefore, Blue's condition is not covered under these plans and so have to turn to alternative solutions.

Although there are plenty of pressing issues and grave circumstances among those in the world, pets have a special place in our hearts which is why this means so much to us. Blue is without a doubt a memeber of our family and we will always care for him like so. Given that Blue is a few months over a year old, we strive to protect him from the confusion of losing his sight and to continue to his active, fun-filled lifestyle. If you have had the chance to know and love Blue, or if you are a fellow dog lover and know the special bond with one, any donation is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed. We have our trust in The Lord and our family thanks you for your generosity.

With much love,
Alexis, Troy and Blue Bowman

Happy Saturday everyone, Lex here! We are currently heading from from GA to TX! Blue made it through surgery and is beginning his long road to recovery. I don't think we realized the gravity of his surgery and what his post op life would look like. Blue has 6 different eye drops and 5 oral medications, multiple times a day. So essentially we will be part time vets to make sure he receives the care he needs.

He will be following up with his eye doctor in Texas every week. We are so thankful for the incredible care he has received from both Dr. Storey and his team in GA as well as Dr. Cichocki in Texas. We have said this more times than I can count but THANK YOU for all of the love and support we have received since Blue's diagnosis. We are hopeful for his recovery as well as making the added expenses work.

People have been asking what he looks like after having surgery. Let's just say he'll always be a handsome boy to us and "hair grows back" We will keep everyone posted on his recovery!

Love,
Lex Troy and of course, Blue!

Good morning everyone, Alexis here.

The three of us have made our way to Georgia to proceed with Blue's surgery. We last left off with Blue having cataracts in both eyes as well as a partially detached retina which is what lead us to the specialist here in Atlanta. Upon his preoperative examination with Dr. Storey, he found that Blue now has a fully detached retina in his left eye on top of the partially detached in his right. This means that he has completely lost sight in his left eye. We are now faced with the financial game changer that has brought the estimate to be over $10,000. We thank everyone for the support that you have shown us thus far and wanted to keep you updated with Blue's surgery. If you can share this update, please feel free to do so as a last effort to get closer to our goal. It seems that with each turn, another curve ball is thrown. We plan to give Blue the full care that he deserves but have our fingers crossed for a lucky break. Thank you for your love and prayers!

With much love,
Alexis, Troy and Blue

Hello everyone! First and foremost, we cannot thank everyone enough for the continued love and support as well as donations within the past week! We just wanted to share a curtail update of Blue. To backtrack, prior to having his cataracts removed Blue required two preoperative tests. These occurred today, 2/13 and unfortunately, the news was not as we had hoped.

Blue does in fact have a partially detached retina which complicates his road to recovery. The surgery to take care of both his cataracts and his retina can be performed at the same time however, there are only four vets in the U.S. that perform the retina repair. We were told it would be $5,000 to $10,000 per eye depending on the ophthalmologist. The upside is that only one eye needs the repair while the other just requires cataract removal. We have the option to move forward with just the cataract removal and cross our fingers that his retina does not fully detach as this would lead to vision loss.

We have decided that having both procedures done for Blue are simply not financially realistic. The silver-lining in these past two weeks is seeing the outpouring of love from friends, family and strangers near and far. Please keep Blue in your thoughts and prayers that his retina does not fully detach. If you have the ability to share Blue's story, we would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you once more for everything!
With much love,
Alexis, Troy and Blue

I recently started a campaign for my dog Jojo. He has a tumor on his heart and had surgery. There were some complications and the vet bill doubled. I read Blues story just about everyday for inspiration. Troy will you please share on how you spread the word. I'm so happy that Blue can live a full life. I'm hoping the same for Jojo. Thank you.

I'm so very happy you were able to have this operation performed. My brother passed away at 50 from kidney failure in 2013. His dog Lucy is mine now. She has severe cataract's. The surgery would have cost over six thousand dollars to have both removed. I feel so guilty that I have let him down along with Lucy. It does break my heart to see her jump at shadows, me passing by and running into things. Vet's cannot perform this, only specialists. I guess there comes a time that you just have to let nature take it course. She's a gentle, kind Shih Tzu who I love with all my heart. I hope he's able to forgive me because I can't forgive myself. She's now 13, with a heart tumor and determined to stay with me. I'd give anything to help her. I am blessed that she's still here with me. I talk to her as I pass her to prevent from scaring her. I'm so very happy for you. There are so many good people in the world and I'm glad they found you. Enjoy Blue... for he has a new lease on life. God bless you both..... :)

My daughter recued a Husky PitBull mix from an indian reservation and the poor dog has ectopic ureters. This means she cannot control her bladder. It is fixable, but the cost is high. She has had the campaing out there for 6 days with no donations, what steps can she take to get the word out? So glad to hear about your beautiful dog!

I am so excited to hear Blue is doing well. We have a campaign for the same reason. I need less ( 4000.00) but it's not been coming in and we are not sure what to do. Our pup was found on thanksgiving Day - he's a yellow lab about 4 years old with cataracts from diabetes but since we have his blood suger under control with 2 insulin shots and gluco balanced Rx food, his blood sugar is well regulated and he's a candidate for the surgery. Please say a prayer for us. We are hoping for a success story like blue! His name is Roady and his campaign is "Help Roady See! " Please share with anyone that might be able to help! Thank you! and Best to Blue!
