If you are a musician, or close to someone who is, you understand the special kind of anguish associated with losing your guitar or fiddle or banjo. And you know how powerful music can be in the healing process. Please help us reunite the victims of the horrific Butte Area Fire with their music.

Butte County is home to many members and friends of the California Bluegrass Association, and many of them escaped the inferno with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.  Already the costliest fire in state history, the Camp (Creek) Fire will take years to recover from and will require an army of public and non-profit agencies, each doing their part.

Here at the California Bluegrass Association, we’re taking on a small but important part by replacing lost or damaged musical instruments owned by current and former Association members. You can help by donating to this GoFundMe campaign, coming to one of the fundraising concerts we’re organizing, and visiting our web site,  where we are bringing together affected members with those who can help.

IMPORTANT: All donations are 100% tax deductible.

It's been both a privilege and a pleasure to help Ted Kuster and his crew on the Camp (Creek) Fire relief effort. In order to do one of my jobs, that of composing personalized thank-you's to donors, I've needed to read all of the answers to "why are you giving" that were submitted with the contributions. What I've been struck by most of all is the heavily dominant theme that's run through probably 75% of the comments--music is at the heart of us, it's the core of that which binds us together as family, as friends, as people.

So just how human is music? Is it really part of what makes us homo sapiens? Though the jury's still out...maybe hundreds of years till it's in...there's actually a pretty fierce debate that's been going on since Darwin about which came first, language or music. The article below is but a snizel of what's out there to read, but it's a nice appetizer.

And one more thing. Donate if you haven't yet and/or take in one of our many fundraiser concerts and for goodness sake tell your FB friends about the project. We're up to $38 grand!

Thanksgiving weekend is just ending and folks are headed back home. Except, of course, our friends in Butte County. Now is when the tragedy REALLY starts setting in. Please consider helping the CBA to help them.

Some folks who donated early are coming back around a second time, and even a third. Others are taking advantage of their own network of friends and relatives to get the word out. However you choose to do it, please help more now as we close in on our goal of $50 K. That amount will allow us to help get victims of the fire re-instrumented.
