Remembrance Of Steve Charland

Donation protected
Hi, we are Ken and Lori Eifert. This fund is for the family of Steve Charland, our best friends for more than 30 years. Cathy and Steve, married as high school sweethearts, were together for more than 40 years. Unbelievably, Steve lost his battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, this week, after almost a year of a determined and courageous battle. I have never seen anyone so sick, fight so hard. Through this battle, Cathy, his wife, cared for Steve at home, worked as many hours as she could as a 30+ year employee of a very supportive, & understanding company, cared for her incredible grand kids, and for several months drove up to 2 hours each way daily to see Steve each week he was in the hospital for chemotherapy. Cathy was everything to Steve. The love of his life. His reason for fighting so hard. Between Steve’s will and Cathy’s positive attitude, I think we all truly believed he would make it. As hard as they both worked, and saved throughout their lives, the recent hospital, doctor and many care bills have accumulated, leaving little money left for living expenses. It is for mortgage, groceries, gas and basic day to day expenses that we are setting up this fund. So many of you who know Steve, know that he would do anything to help a friend, or a stranger. To Steve, strangers were just people who’s names he didn’t yet know. He’s the guy you could call at anytime of the night or day for help, and he’d be there in a minute. If you’re very lucky, you have a “Steve” in your life, and can imagine the loss to us all. To you too. After his love for his wife, his girls, Aubrie and Amber, his grand kids, family, his many friends near and far, he had a passion and great talent for creating, building and fixing anything and everything. He made a living as an incredibly skilled woodworker and tile expert. Steve, though, was always thinking about fishing. Casting that line in the river, with Cathy and his family fishing nearby. I think that’s were Steve’s at right now. Up in heaven, with a line in the water. In the days to come, some will tell great stories about Steve’s artistry with Fords, car meets, and spearheading the Nor-Cal Galaxie Club. Others about his awesome focus on his bowling game and how he coached others to improve theirs. Groups of folks from the US of A to parts of Europe and beyond will reminisce about Steve’s ability to fix, teach, create, and have a crazy good time with pinball machines. Up at all hours, connecting machines and people worldwide! That was Steve, always bringing people together. So many people have asked Cathy, what they could do for her family. In typical Cathy fashion, she answers “Oh nothing, we’re fine.” So for all of us out there that knew Steve, and for all of you who would have known him and loved him, because it was impossible not to, this is a way that we can help. This fund is something that Cathy nor Steve would never think of asking for, much less receive without the true need. We’re sure it will be a difficult gift for Cathy to accept, as they have always made their own way, but hopefully she’ll understand that it is done with love. As anyone might do for a friend.
