BlackSheep Community Project

BlackSheep Taphouse + Lounge

The BlackSheep will be located in the heart of the PNW, Oregon. Because Northwest is best? Yes.

The BlackSheep will be serving the Oregon community new and old. Because the hipster aesthetic would be nothing without our old pals.

The BlackSheep will be a privately-funded venture lead by Payton Hibberd and heavily supported by donations... right?

The Market
The Pacific Northwest is the beer capital of the world, and frankly the best at fermenting anything we find. Let's be real.

In addition to having a lot of production in this area, enjoying fine beers is a culture within itself in the Pacific Northwest, particularly Oregon. To be sure, the market for people that appreciate fine beers is huge.

The BlackSheep will be targeting three distinct customer groups. The beer connoisseur, the general bar attending crowd(still awesome), and of course the tourist(also awesome, but please keep portland weird).

The Competition
The BlackSheep has no intent on blasting away the competition. Frankly, we hope to work with  and support the local brewers, because at the end of the day we all have the same goal. Our goal is to satisfy the need for new and nostalgic brews, create the warm feeling in your stomach, and glorify that feeling with aesthetically pleasing spaces.

The Management Team
The BlackSheep will be founded by Payton Hibberd and supported heavily by donations.

Payton's expierience in the beer industry is fairly diverse. Payton has been crushed on beer from day 1 with  a good ole fashioned Widmer Hefeweizen(shout out to widmer, and of course I claim no rights to  their content). The crush continued through sipping 100s of imports, local brews, and micro brews. Mostly, this crush remained a closet crush until deciding to take a pay cut and leave manufacturing to pursue beer. Payton has since worked at many local beer distribution companies and had access to unlimited supplies of new craft beer to enjoy. Talking to local breweries and beer slingers across PDX-SALEM has been a dream come true and he has since learned quite a lot on what it means to pursue beer and be successful. Payton feels this is the next step to cement a career in beer.

Objectives
Below is a list of the objectives for The BlackSheep.

~ Have twelve or more local micro brew kegs on tap.
~ Have business grow at least 10% per month.
~ Create an amazing expierience for the customer.
~ Make efforts to kickstart new local breweries by featuring them on the "Black List - Tap List"
~ Create a great workplace for associates.
~ Become a staple happy hour spot in Oregon

Mission
To create an economically healthy organization that provides a variety of quality beers in a casual and fun environment that appeals to a wide range of customers.

Keys to Success
The keys to the success of The BlackSheep can be summarized by the following points:

~ Maintain good relationships with reliable beer distributors. (leave politics out of those relationships)
~ Well designed bar with a unique and entertaining atmosphere.
~ Quality entertainment.
~ Repeat customers.

Start-up Summary
The BlackSheep's start-up costs will cover beer serving equipment, site renovation and remodeling, capital to cover losses during the first year and the entertainment equipment, including a big screen television for sports, a pool table, and a stereo. In addition, costs will be allocated for the beer serving equipment. Eight taps, Carbon Dioxide tanks, and glassware will be purchased from various equipment vendors.

The site will require funds for renovation and modification. A single estimated figure will be allocated for this purpose. The renovation/modification cost estimate will include the costs associated with preparing the site for opening business in TBD.

The furniture, the site renovation, permits and fees, and the entertainment equipment will account for a large amount of our start-up costs.

Because of the competitive nature of the marketplace, we have accounted for more money than necessary when it comes to the cash balance. By doing so, we will be in a good position should our numbers not match what we have forecasted and will not lose the large amount invested to start the business.

Services
The BlackSheep will provide its customers with a unique and friendly environment for enjoying micro and local brews. The BlackSheep will also provide customers with a unique and innovative environment for enjoying the quality beers on tap, including a pool table and a big screen television for sporting events. The BlackSheep will feature a rotating "Black List" of beers.

Competitive Comparison
While the BlackSheep frowns on the competitive nature of the beer industry, we understand that it comes with the territory. We hope to set a standard for a well priced taproom & lounge. We will feature an aesthetically pleasing environment designed and maintained by Payton Hibberd and artistic designers. The "Black List Board" will be a staple social topic for Oregon.

Conclusion
We at BlackSheep hope to set the bar for all of Oregon in our Taproom. The aesthetic will fit the needs for the Oregon fads, and the "Black List" is sure to be a cloud pleaser. We are calling all you BlackSheep to make this dream a reality, don't hesitate, and don't disappoint.

We will reward the first 50 donations of $100 with a "BS BlackSheep Pint Glass":
